Safe and Sound
"When all those shadows almost killed your light."
[ x ]
He was clinging to life when they finally found him. Hurricane, vanguard of the 37's. A Project Phoenix squad.
The evac came quickly. With Hurricane in the delicate state that he was in they had to, or they would lose him. The thought of why he was here alone when Phoenix usually hunt in teams crossed Vivian's mind, but quickly left it as evac landed behind them. Medical staff rushed for Hurricane, and hauled his near dead body into the shuttle. Vivian's squad following behind.
In the shuttle she couldn't help but watch Hurricane lay there, strapped to a gurney. When she asked if the restraints were necessary the medical team told her that he was different than most Phoenix and left it at that.
Hurricane was shot in the head. Vivan doubted that he would make it to the nearest station. But he surprised her with a groan. She snapped her gaze from the window she was gazing out of to his face. The medical team looked as surprised as she was.
The, little, Phoenix opened his mouth but no words came out. After a minuet it became unintelligible babble. Then the babble became strings of sentences that didn't fit together. His heart rate spiked. He was panicking. The medical staff was doing everything they could to calm the vanguard down, but he was inconsolable. If he didn't calm down soon he would agitate his head wound, and he would surely die.
Not that it was any of her concern. Victor and Vincent weren't even paying attention to the calamity that was happening right next to them so why should she. Vivan looked away from the spectacle trying to keep herself out of business that didn't concern her. She did the only thing she could think of to drown out the sound of screaming machines, and one scared Phoenix.
'Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound'
Victor nudged her with his foot, and nodded over in the direction of Hurricane who had calmed down. "I didn't know you were still working on that song. It's not really our style."
"I can write whatever music I want to. Even if we never perform it."
"Whatever," Victor sank down into his seat, "at least it shut that kid up."
Vivian looked away from her squad mate, and back out the window into the void of space.
When they finally docked at a station Hurricane was still very much alive, much to the scientists who greeted them delight.
"I'm sure the 37's will be happy to have Hurricane back in one piece." Vivian said to a few of the medical personnel that stayed behind to clean up.
"Oh he's not going back to Phoenix One. They're going to keep him here. From what I know they aren't even going to notify the 37's of Hurricanes retrieval. They've been told he died."
Vivan opened her mouth to protest, but was very quick to snap it shut. It was none of her business. All she had been ordered to do was find him, and retrieve him. Her squad mates pulled her back into the shuttle. This was not their destination.
As she watched the scientists wheel Hurricane away Vivian had a feeling that this wouldn't be the last time she would meet him. So she decided then that she would finish that song for him.

Would you consider doing a war effort concert?
I keep getting asked that... I keep saying no... Maybe I should just do it... But Victor is dead, and Vincent isn't in any shape. I'll think more on it...

"If you could be anything you wanted what would it be?"
Abandoned not long after birth the orphanage workers named her Ringo as she was found in an apple crate. She lived the first ten years of her life in that orphanage discourage that no one wanted her. Young children usually went out quickly, she had seen enough to know. Why not her? One day she would overhear the orphanage workers talking about her. And about the biotic powers she was developing. Who would want a freak child? So she ran away.
A street gang picked her up, and for three years she worked with them as a distraction while they stole, or beat someone up. On quiet days she would wander up to New Tokyo and watch the billboards. She wanted to be like those girls. They had no cares in the world. Everyone loved them. Ringo wanted that more than anything.
When she turned thirteen her wishes would be granted when someone took an interest in her developing biotic skills. They wanted to take her away from her gang life, and all she had to do was go with them.
"If you could be anything you wanted what would it be?" She remembered them saying. When she told them she wanted to be like the girls on the billboards they promised her that life. She went with them.
She would come to find out that everything comes with a price. Cerberus re-named her Vivian Ai telling her to forget everything about her old life, and that if she came out on top she would get what she wanted.
And she came out on top. Cerberus took a lowborn zero, and made her number one. At fifteen she slaughtered her competitors, and won the title Operative Athena. She was placed into Project Siren with two others. Two promising members of their Project Phoneix: Vincent 'Longsword' Ai a vanguard, and Victor 'Aegis' Ai an adept. Together the three of them made up Project Siren a music trio that shot up the entertainment charts as one of the galaxy's number one human sensation.
Little did the public eye know that their real purpose was that of political assanation, and high priority retreaval.
When the war broke out Vivian wanted out. She was tired of killing people for Cerberus, and as soon as they found out about the indoctrinated soldiers the three fled. Leaving came with a price. Vincent and Victors Phoenix implants came with a deadly price. They began failing, and ultimatly Victor lost his life. Vincent remains in a private ICU room at Huerta Memorial Hospital while Vivian tries to save him from Victors fate.

Operation Newshound : Vivian
It was a lot of chaos, but she was able to get out unseen, and unscathed. She had more interesting things to worry about. The Phoenix that got away was one of them. With her abilities following him undetected was a simple matter. And where she ended up didn't surprise her. She couldn't tell if the other Phoenix, 'Wildfire', could keep up with them, but she would soon find out. For right now it was just the two of them.
A makeshift hideaway in the warehouses of the Zakera Ward. The perfect place if you didn't want to be found. And he didn't seem to want to be found. None of the Phoenix's did for that matter. Why go through the trouble of running away only to go back.
She hid in a catwalk above what looked to be a pieced together home of the Phoenix she heard Wildfire call 'Anubis'. A dirty mattress, a table that was actually a broken crate. The few belongings he had were tossed around carelessly, and an unfinished meal sat upon the broken crate table. Definitely the place of someone hiding.
Vivian sat down in a shadow, and watched. She had a feeling that if she stayed she would find out what was going on around here.

Operation Newshound : Vivian
Vivian sat comfortably in the security of Huerta Memorial Hosptals 'special' wing. Warm tea in one hand, and a data pad in the other, she went through news headlines. All boring. The Reaper War going on outside had a way of making the news seem even less enjoyable to read. It was always the same thing: This colony is taken over, that ship had be shot down. Nothing was changing, and she was beginning to tire of it.
Still Vivian continued to scroll through headlines, and their small descriptions, when a news alert pop-up caught her attention.
News Alert: Citizens of Zakera Ward are advised to be on high alert following a recent string of murders. So far, four victims have been claimed. While C-Sec is reluctant to share too much information for fear of inspiring copycats, CBC has been able to discover that all the victims have been human, and have had unconfirmed ties to Cerberus.
It is reported that a human male, approximately six feet, two inches, dark skinned and bald has been seen at all of the crime scenes. C-sec is noting this individual to be a person of interest.
All of the victims were found in the vicinity of Club Gaia, a noted human establishment and were all apparently killed by what appears to be a singularity in their brainstems. If you have any information relating to these incidents, or see anyone suspicious, please contact C-Sec, keyword murder
While she was reading her brother shuffled around in his bed beside her, and eventually woke up, “Anything interesting?” He nodded at the datapad in her hand before settling himself in his hospital bed.
“No,” she said flatly, “Someone is killing people who may still be connected to Cerberus in the Zakera Wards. Club Gaia.”
Vivian could feel her brothers frown. When she turned to face him there it was. “You want me to look into it don't you?”
“Please?”
“I'm not leaving you here alone.”
“I've got the doctors here. I promise I'll still be alive when you come back.”
She glared, furiously, towards her brother, but set her tea and data pad down on the the bedside table.
“Thank you, Ringo.”
Vivian felt a twinge of sadness at the use of her real name, but pushed it aside as she began stuffing her hair into a large puffy hat. Finishing herself off with big sunglasses she grabbed her sword, and headed off towards the Zakera Wards and Club Gaia.

Project Siren: Creating a 1 from 0
She hated her. The perfect, little, investors daughter. With her good looks, perfect upbringing, special training, and that fucking red ribbon she wore everyday. 'My older brother gave it to me,' she would boast as she tied it so perfectly in her hair.
The perfect Number One.
Vivian wanted to choke her with that ribbon in front of all the investors, handlers, and the other Siren candidates who mindlessly adored her. She had made the mistake one day of saying how much prettier that ribbon would look on her aloud during a training session. That mistake would make her the prime target of torment from then on.
The lonely Number Zero.
Months went by during the testing, and everyday was a different hell to endure. Number One and her 'friends' would always find a new way to show her why she was a zero not worth the programs time. From physical abuse like holding her head under water, to mental torment while the handlers weren't looking.
She would get the last laugh. It wouldn't be until the final test, but the wait would be worth it at the end. The other girls didn't see it coming, but she did. Battle Royal would be the final test. They only wanted the best person for this project. What better way to get the best than by pitting the best in a fight to the death. The last girl standing would be Operative Athena.
None of the girls saw her coming. Vivian left bodies piled in her path until Number One was left. She begged when she saw the bodies of her admirers behind Vivian. Vivian would have none of that.
Vivian was so surprised how easy it was. Separating the little princess's head from her perfect body. She started to walk away from her, but turned around. She knelt down beside the severed head, and plucked the ribbon from her hair. From that moment on she wore it like a battle trophy. She had the title of Operative Athena now, but that little trinket just made the victory all the sweeter.
She had created a one from a zero. No one was ever going to knock her out of her spot.

are cerberus looking for you?
Oh of course. The one flaw they made though was making me a public icon. If I was to just suddenly disappear it would raise far too much suspicion. So for now I am safe.

Note
how did you become to be part of cerberus?
I was a street kid in Old Tokyo. I stayed around two biotic orphans who were eventually found by Cerberus. They refused to go with them unless they took me too. I almost wish they left me in the gutter.

do you miss your old life?
The Cerberus phantom part, absolutely not. The famous pop star part, yes. Who doesn't want thousands of fans falling at your feet at the sight of you?

do you have a significant other?
Ugh, have you been reading trashy tabloids?! They're all untrue I assure you! Who has time for men when I have, or well had, a name to make for myself in this galaxy.
