Why is it Important to keep your pets healthy
We now know that dog owners can live longer, healthier lives thanks to their pets. We can also help our pet insurance live longer with a few simple tips.
Keeping your pet at a healthy weight reduces the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, respiratory disease, and more. Indeed, excess weight can reduce the life expectancy of your pet by more than two years.
Sudden epidemics like swine and bird flu are a good reminder that humans are not immune to the diseases that animals carry. These particular illnesses are more likely to affect people who work with animals regularly, such as on a farm, but being at risk to an animal's health can occur in your own home. Improper pet care can lead to illness, and a misbehaving pet can be dangerous for families.
At the same time, the presence of animals has been shown to increase the well-being of a person. The American Heart Association released a study this year that showed pet owners improved their cardiovascular pet health insurance . Animals are often used to help children with special needs or during hospital visits. Their presence can reduce loneliness, increase altruism, and reduce anxiety.

Understand your pet's natural tendencies
Before adopting a pet, know what role you want them to have in your family. Do you want a pet for companionship or to keep the house? Do you expect your pet to accompany you on your morning run? Can you afford to pay someone to look after your pet while you are working or while you are away on business?
“People should know enough about their animal when they have it and after they get it,” says Hendricks. "They also need to be open to the idea that they might not know as much as they thought they . Some dogs are meant to work, some need intellectual stimulation, and others need little exercise. Bulldogs, for example, are happy to get a lot of sleep around the house and show affection when you get home from work. Great Danes don't need to run a lot either.
Train your pet properly
Animal bites are the biggest risk to children's health when it comes to pets, says Hendricks. Avoiding this danger comes down to the first principle of understanding your pet's needs.
“People treat animals like they're people, and they treat us like we're their kind,” she says. For example, dogs often bite each other out of play, but owners should stress that this type of behavior is not acceptable when playing with people. Work with your pet to manage their behavior so everyone is happy.
Maintain medical records
If your pet has no parasites and is healthy, they probably won't transmit diseases to humans, Hendricks points out. When you first get a young pet, you will need to visit a vet several times for a series of vaccinations. Dogs and cats should also be dewormed by a veterinarian, recommends the CDC. Hendricks adds that it's a good idea to see a vet at least once a year for the animal's welfare, even if there doesn't seem to be a problem.
A pet's teeth can often be overlooked, she says. Dogs, for example, can contract periodontal or gum disease, which makes them sick, makes feeding painful and gives them bad breath, she says. Veterinarians often encourage owners to brush their dog's teeth. Maintaining healthy teeth can avoid heavy vet bills later on, as some dogs have to have their teeth pulled out or anesthetized for cleaning.
If you notice that your dog is losing weight, either slowly or rapidly, a veterinarian should be contacted to determine the cause. Therefore, your dogs need pet health insurance to get regular and professional treatment.
Several pet insurance companies provide general Pet Insurance and specific Cat Insurance and Dog Insurance, so on and so forth. So you have an option to choose the best cat insurance for your furry buddy. This will not only be of great help during major medical requirements but will also prove to be of aid when you plan to buy toys, accessories and during regular medical checkups and vaccinations.
