summary: after the events of infinity war and endgame, tony who is VERY much alive thank you invites peter to spend a day at the beach with his family. unfortunately, the plans for relaxation quickly go sideways as peter is thrown back to that moment.

May wouldn’t say she trusts Tony more now that all of Peter’s adventures, and Tony’s part in them, have come to light. In fact, she trusts him even less. But she respects him, and she’d be stupid not to notice the connection the two have, the way they lean on each other, look for each other, orbit each other like binary stars, especially after the blip.

The blip. May thinks that name is completely and utterly stupid. The blip sounds like a trip over the curb, a flashing light, a water droplet, when the phenomena it describes is the ocean. Half the universe… well, they didn’t even die, they were confined to a purgatory in-between that they have no recollection of. The other half were cursed to survive in the remnants. Store prices went up because of less workers, but real estate was cheap and in abundance. Countries were thrown into chaos and governments forced to work together. There was looting and wars and sharing and comradery, but those are the big scale effects.

What’s not spoken about is all the parents that lost their children, the children who lost their parents, the people who died in the initial catastrophe and those who passed from heartache and grief and loss some time after. May hears these stories. Her coworkers recite them at the hospital in hushed tones. There are Facebook groups for people who had to live those five years and others for those who need to learn about them.

May’s lucky, she supposes. She falls in the latter group, as did Peter. They didn’t have to live it, neither without the other.

Tony’s lucky in his own way. He survived, as did his family and his closest friends. He even had a kid.

Where their paths crossed, though, that was unlucky.

Because Tony lost Peter, and five years and five mere minutes later, Peter almost lost Tony.
