Work-Life Balance
As my desire to do anything but work grows, I find myself with very little time to play many games these days. I have a big move coming up as well as some work transitions coming shortly thereafter, and I just wish for time to stop for a moment.Â
Looking back, it’s easy to see why parents nag you to enjoy your earlier years because they fly by – I started the regular work life when I was 16, still in high school, and haven’t stopped much since. I think the longest period of time I’ve spent unemployed since then was a timespan of 2 weeks. It’s insane to think about in that aspect.
And I love to revert to some of my younger tendencies, and love to break normal sentence conventions when it fits my weird writing aesthetic, hopefully to show the tension in my thoughts. There are moments I look back on even throughout college where I wish I would have been able to slow down and enjoy more of my time there, and spend more time with friends. It’s harder than I imagined to keep all those friendships at a similar level when you’re thousands of miles apart.
I don’t write all of this to say pity me -- this is more just a stream of consciousness post that I’m echoing into the void as I reflect on the past several years, thankful for the memories I’ve made, wishing I would have made more...wishing I could play more Persona 5: Royal right now.
But here I am, writing this post, figuring out the logistical details of my residential move and work transition, when I’d rather be in Leblanc – asking my homeroom teacher to brew some coffee while I finish a crossword puzzle and buy items off of a shady black-market website.
Something in my brain made me think...
...I should write something.

Persona 5 Royal: 30+ hours in...
So, I am definitely back to being obsessed like I was with vanilla P5. I have been bouncing between Persona 5: Royal and Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and very little amount of time towards Animal Crossing as well. But out of every one of these games that I love and enjoy playing, P5R is the one that commands most of my time. Atlus does a fantastic job of continuing to build upon what you’ve previously done, and the world continues to expand in great ways. I find myself wanting to do just “one more thing” and looking at the clock an hour later -- it’s a pretty incredible feat, really.
I’ve only just finished Kaneshiro’s arc, Medjed is coming up soon here, and I have no intentions of slowing down. Working from home means I get to play these games a lot quicker and more often than I’ve been able to in the past few months, and that’s one side effect I do not mind...

Persona 5: Royal - Some Spoiler-Free Thoughts
So, I’ve gotten about 12+ hours into the game so far -- I’ve sidetracked myself enough that I only just recently finished the first palace and have really put some time into improving stats & social links among other things.
The new additions are fantastic in my opinion. There are pieces put in that allow you to somewhat personalize your experience, and added bonuses to boot. Accessories feel like they matter more a lot earlier on, and even subtle additions within fights make them feel more alive! There are so many more decisions to make, but the game is all the more better because of it.
I played through the original (vanilla) Persona 5, and beat that in about ~85 hours. With this game, I can easily see myself needing to tack on another 20 hours to that total for my first playthrough -- and I’m okay with that, because they’ll breeze by!
Also, for anyone like me who might not have enjoyed the slog and grind in Mementos after a while: they’ve added in some mechanics that not only make the experience more interesting, but I really feel like spending more time driving through Mementos because of them! In turn, my team levels up, get more experience fighting Shadows, interact with these new mechanics and upgrades, and it’s a win-win scenario. I don’t feel as though I’ll get fatigued with Mementos quite as quickly as I did in the original (which was a shame -- by the time I reached the final area in OG P5, despite loving the music and environmental pieces to it, I just wanted to rush through it all because of how tired I was from Mementos).
For anyone wondering if they should get the original P5 or P5R, I believe all of the reviews have gotten it right that P5R improves upon nearly everything from its predecessor, and is the best way to experience all that Persona 5 and its story + characters have to offer. If you’re strapped on cash, getting OG Persona 5 still wouldn’t be a bad purchase - hell, I’d recommend experiencing Persona 5 in any way that you can! I’ve never been into JRPG’s, and P5 was my first real foray into them. It’s definitely changed my opinion on JRPG’s for the better, and I’m so excited to continue through and see everything that P5R has to offer.

Step 1: Getting started.
New to this whole..."blogging" thing...gonna try it out and see how this works.
Semi-new Persona fan (new being, less than 2 years, and an actual fan who has played the game, unlike other "Persona fans") looking to share memes and media dedicated to the Shin Megami Tensei - Persona franchise!
Started off on Persona 5 and working my way back now - currently playing Persona 4 Golden and looking to keep heading back through the games...at least until I get my hands on Persona 5 Royal at the end of this month, then I'll lose hundreds more hours of my life to that blessed game.
Now to infiltrate the palace that is Tumblr.
