One trait of Mapleshade that I find fascinating is the fact she *wants* to reveal the kittens are half-clan. She states that they will be loyal to both RiverClan and ThunderClan, as well as revealing the truth to the Clans (Not specifically the kittens?) I think Mapleshade is just interesting if you think about her as being this perpetual believer that everything will be okay, because StarClan loves her (She even states StarClan would love her children). She isn't afraid of them being rejected - doesn't even really consider that being a problem, because her children are special. Though I do feel this is a symptom of how the half-clan rule is just an ultimately cruel part of Clan-life, and Mapleshade unfortunately got caught in the midst of it. Especially seeing as her faith is kind of sad, knowing what will happen in the end - even as someone who dislikes Mapleshade.

yeah i think mapleshade's total faith in her own security mostly works to add to the tragedy. it's one of those books where no one really wins and i think serves as worldbuilding towards how fucked the warrior code is as a system but that either isn't intentional to the extent it goes or the writing team don't really want the readers to dwell on it. no matter how hard you try to appeal to the forces of oppression around you they will cut you down as soon as you are vulnerable and othered. they are not there to help you and cannot be won or reasoned with in a way that makes you truly immune unless you just are exactly what they want you to be.

mapleshade certainly has flaws pre-exile- she's self centred, rash, judgmental- but none of these make her an ontologically bad person or remotely justify what happens to her, it just makes it more of a gut punch for her when that sense of security and certainty is pulled out from under her feet. while a character like leafpool or bluestar is fully aware and fearful of the consequences for their transgression and will suffer in guilt and hiding until they are inevitably or resultingly punished for it, mapleshade does not have that understanding or sense of self preservation and is also, more immediately and directly, punished for it. no winning the starclan game!!

Robinpaw!! We know literally nothing about her so lots of speculation but I mean I think it’s pretty fair to assume she is grieving her father along with her brother lol. She’s showed up a lot in the background of other character sheets so she was bound to be here eventually. This is one of my favorites so far! And also I think this is the end of my little ten character challenge holly shit?! It’s not a big goal but I’m happy I met it either way! I think I’ll continue to do a few more until I naturally get busy with school and phase it out but it’s been fun! I have a few more characters I have ideas for so I’m excited to show those too!

listen i know i made a post about meaningful comparisons to Firestar that go beyond fur colour and i still stand by that but allow me to talk about my design headcanons in this post while being vain and entirely unserious because i think i deserve it.

i personally don't care much, positively or negatively, for things done entirely out of spite, but Nightheart designs are genuinely one of the biggest exceptions for me. i like seeing orange on Nightheart but i LOVE seeing rust more. i can't explain but it tickles my brain. if i were to ever design him he would absolutely have rust streaks scattered in his fur and in his "hair"

and on the topic of hair, the emo hair is extremely funny, but do you know what would be funnier? if it covered one of his eyes. and in a graphic novel, short comic, or some other visual representation of him, it could be a visual gag that takes an extremely long time to get to story-wise. hear me out:

the idea is this: Nightheart and Finchlight have heterochromia -- one eye is an entirely inconsequential eye colour and the other is green. Finchlight is a bit vain and doesn't at all hide it because it shows she's unique and she's proud of it, but a young and particularly immature Flamepaw grows his hair out and hides the green eye because "it's green like Firestar" (it's the EXACT shade) and the hairstyle kinda just stuck.

NONE of his friends outside of his Clan are aware of his green eye because he's always, always hiding that side of his face. and he never told them because it was never relevant. and throughout it all, whenever his hair is, like, being blown in the wind or whatever, his green eye is closed so that they STILL don't know what it looks like. and they all assume that both of them are amber or blue or whatever colour you wanna give him

the gag only becomes apparent once the secret is out: cue moment where he needs to be stealthy and sneaky and put on a really shitty disguise so he does all the things needed: disguise his scent, make his voice deeper, that kind of thing. and then, "just in case," he flips his hair so that his green eye is shown instead. and through the power of comedy the disguise works

now with cheesy's pun disease from his coding now being something he actively fights against i do have to ask myself if tea kettle really means to be acting motherly due to her code still being there and is trying to break free of that, or if shes just trying to be more competitive now and is pushing back her motherly instincts, or both. however i do kinda hope we see more of these two tea kettle has had Enough of having boys to watch over. i would like her to have an angry daughter
