Aiui the limiting factor in translating Linear A is just a paucity of text fragments. We have fewer than x10 the amount of examples we had of Linear B when it was translated. There are also linguistic dissimilarities—the assumed logographic nature of Linear A vs Linear B being closer to Ancient Greek—but these too are surmountable difficulties given more data.

So is the answer to just funnel money into archeological sites on Crete? Get more text fragments, get more data.

Or is there really more value in working out more sophisticated techniques of translation ultimately requiring less data?
