Over Indulgence - The Abyssal Chasm

"You look like shit." Percy muttered, stepping into the darkened room of the noble chambers, all the lights had been dimmed except the scattered candles, flickering with a minor cross breeze.
There was a sound of a grumble from the figure laying in the large dark blue plush couch, the figure's brunette hair was shoulder length, cut in a disheveled mullet, and messily framing his face. "Maeve told me about your little rendezvous with Doctor Armato-" Percy began, walking over towards the ice cooler across the room.
"Did I ask for your opinion?" The figure spoke, the voice deep with lack of use, bordering on a growl, as the figure pushed itself off to stand properly. Percy made his way back from the cooler, quietly holding a giant water bottle, that had almost frozen due to its time in the cooler. "You're the one who has a cat scratch under his eye like some kind of pirate." The grumbling couch potato spoke.
"Cassian, you know your life would be a bit easier if you just did what mom asked us to do. Right?" Percy asked, handing the water bottle over to Cassian, the condensation of the bottle caught Cassian by surprise, as it almost slid out of the older man's hands, narrowly being caught.
"You say it like it's a piece of cake.. You are your rules.." Cassian grumbled, putting the water bottle to his forehead before quietly cracking it open with a firm tug. Percy clicked his tongue, forcing down the irritation he felt by Cassian's indifference.
"All she asks you to do is to not follow Doctor Armato, she may be a paranoid woman, but she is our queen." Percy scolded, walking back towards the cooler to grab another bottle of water. "A paranoid woman is all she is! She just happens to be our mother as well." Cassian replied, bringing the water bottle to his lips, his cold gaze following Percy as he walked.
"Percival. Im talkin' to you." Cassian growled.
Percy's head hunched momentarily as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "Don't call me that-" He began through his teeth. "You are obviously under the influence, what'd he give you this time?"
"Lockhelm." Cassian spoke bluntly, causing Percy's head to whip around to meet his gaze. "I-" Percy began, clearly frazzled by Cassian's brunt honesty. "You follow the rules so much, why not you be king?" Cassian spoke, gesturing to Percy with the water bottle like it was a pointing stick.
"Because I'm not the oldest, and you're too egotistical to abdicate your place in the line." Percy growled, his brows furrowing as he processed Cassian's statement. "What do you expect me to do Cassian? You won't remove yourself from the line, and yet you say shit like that?" Percy began, approaching Cassian, his cheeks red with frustration.
"Momma's talkin about that goddess again." Cassian muttered, causing Percy to pause in his tracks. "Florence, her name." Cassian spoke. "She told me something recently, that I didn't expect." Cassian flopped back down onto the blue plush couch, spilling some of the ice cold water onto his chest.
Percy set down his large water bottle on the glass coffee table in front of him, before standing up straight, placing his hands on his hips as he waited for Cassian to elaborate.
"She told me that Florence is beautiful, but an omen in the same. Apparently she used to watch over me as a kid." Cassian chuckled, like he was telling the funniest joke on the planet.
"Has Momma seen her recently?" Percy questioned as he stood in front of Cassian. There was a brief moment of silence before Percy grabbed Cassian's chin, causing him to snort and chuckle. "You're saying the goddess of death was watching over you and you think this is funny? There's a chance that this is going to either be the worst thing that happened to you, or the best thing." Percy scolded, removing his hand from Cassian's jaw.
"We, are getting off topic." Percy spoke, bringing his water bottle to his mouth to take a swallow of the drink, promptly setting it back down afterwards. "Why were you with Doctor Armato hm?" Percy spoke, dropping to the couch across from the one with Cassian in it. "Also, why the FUCK did you consume Lockhelm?" Percy growled, gesturing with the water bottle, mimicking Cassian's aggressive mannerism.
"Especially when you know how strange he is." Percy added, his gaze intense as he watched Cassian.
Cassian seemed to still, like for the first time since Percy entered the room, he was actually worried about the words he was about to say.
"Doctor Armato believes he can make humans have the ability to survive the intense pressures of deep sea exploration, while also being able to allow us to breathe underwater." Cassian said promptly.
Percy almost gawked with surprise. "You- and you believed him?" He spoke with shock as he leaned in towards Cassian.
Cassian, in one quick motion suddenly threw the water bottle towards Percy. Percy in a quick motion narrowly dodged the attack as the water bottle flew past his face, landing behind him with a glass shattering sound. "HE EXPERIMENTED ON US ONCE ALREADY PERCY!" Cassian snapped.
Percy stood up suddenly, bristling as he took the gesture as an attack. "What the hell are you on about?" Percy adjusted his maroon vest, brushing down his hair with a quick swipe of his hand as he nervously looked towards the door.
"You know exactly what I am on about." Cassian hissed. "We weren't sick as kids, we weren't frail like they told us we were, our mom is not the most honest person, they obviously did something." He spoke.

Experimentation - The Abyssal Chasm
------------------------------------------------------------------------ "When was the last time you got your eyes checked?" Maeve asked gently, examining the large scratch that had formed on Percy's right cheek, narrowly missing his lower lash line. Maeve was using a gentle pocket flashlight as she tried to direct the cotton swab onto the lightly bleeding wound. "I had them checked last week, what are you on about hun?" Percy replied, the grumble of his voice showing that he was not appreciating the fact that he was being made to sit still. "Your eyes, they are a tree bark color to me, but there's a slight hint of orange in them now." Maeve said, lightly clicking off the flashlight and stepping back to give Percy some space. Percy brought his fingers up to the skin of his cheek, as if to make sure that Maeve was thorough. "Your brother, Cassian, ever since he started to speak with that new specialist, he's been acting strange." Maeve said, sitting back down next to Percy, who brought his lips gently towards her temple in a soft kiss. "Weird how?" Percy asked, the idea of his brother acting strange was unnerving, considering Cassian Everett, Percy's only and older brother was the crown prince of the Abyss, the current kingdom they resided in. "He seems... more irritable." Maeve spoke, like she was trying to collect her words into coherent thoughts. "Like, Cassian is already a prick to me, but something about it now seems more malicious." Maeve spoke. Percy rubbed his hand on her back in a comforting gesture. "Cassian's a prick to everyone, can you give me an example of how it seems more malicious?" Percy asked softly, he brought his gaze down to her level, wanting to maintain eye contact as a proper sign of respect. "When we were at the ball, the one you invited me to, after our wedding." Maeve began, scooting closer to Percy on the bench, who instinctively wrapped his arm over her shoulders. "He was twitchy, I could remember it so. His movements were lethargic, like he was some demented flesh puppet operated on invisible strings." "He was speaking about how our gods will finally acknowledge him after the scientist's work on him-" Maeve began, causing Percy to nearly choke on his own saliva with surprise. "I beg your pardon darling- what do you mean by work on him? Do you know the name of the scientist" Percy spoke, clearing his throat after Maeve hit his back to clear his throat. "He kept muttering about bloodwork and genetic manipulation," Maeve began, her voice sounding incredibly frustrated as she recounted the conversation she had with Cassian. "All i heard from his rants however was a load of bullshit and medical malpractice." Maeve spoke, her brows furrowing as she tried to think of the name of the scientist. "I believe his last name was Armato.." Percy was pale, confused, and bewildered at the fact that his older brother went through a procedure he had no idea about, and had a feeling he would need to confront Cassian about it. "Let's head back love." Percy spoke, standing up and gently offering his hand for Maeve to take. "I don't want you to catch a chill just because the walks are cathartic to me." He chuckled softly. Percy took off his red trench coat and gently draped it over Maeve's shoulder, making sure it was nice and snug before starting their walk back towards the palace.
