Your protest safety post just came across my dash, but an important addition I think is, if you can't use water or milk for pepper spray or tear gas, what SHOULD be used?

Answer: Sterile Saline.

You can get saline rinse pretty easy from places like Walgreens, just be sure you're getting sterile saline rinse and not contact solution (contact solution can work, but it can also contain other chemical disinfectants that are used to clean the contact before it goes into your eye. Most contact salines are fine, just be aware that it could cause additional irritation depending on a person's sensitivity).

(Additional tip: if you wear contacts in your day-to-day living, don't wear them to a protest. If tear gas or pepper spray gets in your eyes, obstructions such as contacts need to be removed before rinsing, but removal would be made incredibly difficult by the fact you have tear gas and/or pepper spray in your eyes that hasn't yet been rinsed out. Vicious cycle, opt for glasses or visual impairment. It's less dangerous.)

Also btw trump recognizing only "the two biological sexes" harms intersex people too. I am a researcher of sex and it's affects on disease, and sex is far more complicated than "two sexes" and it always will be. Sex is multifaceted and there are far more than two binary sexes. Keep that in mind too. Don't fall into bioessentialism as you fight for trans people and intersex people.
