the issue with writing for yourself is that you will get sucked into rereading your own fic over and over and pretend it’s “editing,” but really you’re just reading because it’s exactly what you want to read. because you wrote it. for you.

when you talk about different body temperatures for trolls, what are the actual temperatures? are auburns somewhere around humans?
At some point about one billion years ago I wrote this out for reference, but the simplest way to reverse engineer it is:
Auburns run just-above-fever-hot (think the 105-110F range) such that they are genuinely more susceptible to cold stress than the average human. We hit 'human temperature' (98.6F) somewhere between olive and lime. (Karkat, by this logic, was both human-blooded and human-temperature). Jades are ectothermic but prefer 80-90F heat, environmentally. Teals are in the just-sub-90F zone, but self-warming. From there, drop four or five F every successively cooler stratum until you get to violets (about 75F, like a fancy goldfish). Purples are a slight outlier, at closer to 60F, while fuchsias hover comfortably in the 30s-to-40s.
These are all internal body temperatures, of course - humans are most comfortable at 60-80F despite having an internal temp of nearly 99F. To the touch, Vinbre 'feels' about 60F on land, which is cold and annoying for Oanjou - meanwhile Oanjou 'feels' about 95F, which is excessively warm and annoying for Vinbre.
Fuchsias are metabolically best suited to the water, as their bodies go through some genuine stress, especially while young, thermoregulating in 'land conditions'. Vinbre is comfortable down to 0F, but even that is weird in open air, because she's built to share some of her thermoregulation with cold deep water.
