Keep Calm And Quarantine.
I’ve been in lockdown in the South of Italy for more than month now. Seeing that Italy has been a little ahead of the global pandemic compared to other countries I wanted to share some tips I’ve learned to keep relatively sane during self-quarantine. So here are some personal insights - the good, the bad, and the ugly!
Start exercising!
Even if you don’t usually exercise it’s time to start! I‘ve been sticking to about a 20-minute daily workout and I’m incredibly lazy. Generally, I just want to prevent myself from becoming too restless indoors. You’ll start to feel a difference in your body by just staying in and not walking around like usual. Keep your body moving and your mind calm with a decent workout.
I like this yoga channel! However, there are many different apps and video channels that can give you some extra inspiration and the push you need to start. Even 5 minutes a day can make a difference!
Keep a good routine
Wake up and go to bed at the same time and stick to a routine. I know it’s easier said than done. Without the pressure of a work schedule or active social life it can be tempting to lie around in pyjamas all day. Yet, I found the days that I did this I felt my lowest.
If you’re having trouble sticking to a routine, write down your to-do list every day and give a general time frame for everything. It will help you to stick to it!
Also, make sure you eat well and within regular meal times. In the early days of the lockdown, I was eating and snacking like crazy and it’s just not a sustainable lifestyle for quarantine. You’ve got to try extra hard not to binge eat and stay glued to your computer screen! Trust me, even after a month it’s still a work-in progress.
Focus on hobbies
If you have to take time off work use the opportunity to invest into some hobbies or passion projects. Whether it’s reading, cooking, baking, or even just spending some serious time with a childhood video game. Get off Netflix and do something active. It’ll keep your mind busy and your spirits up. On top of this, you can use your extra time to re-connect with old friends. Take the time to give some loved ones a call and let them know you’re thinking of them. We’re all in this together and a chat with an old friend can make your day.
Take a break from the news
Sometimes it can be healthy to take a newsbreak. Even though it’s great to stay updated with breaking news at times the constant feed of the state of things can be depressing. Taking a couple of hours to unplug from the news can do wonders.
Working from home
I’ve been working from home for the last three weeks and all I can say is to be gentle on yourself! Transferring to online work-life is a learning curve and everyone understands if there are some bumps along the road.
Feeling overwhelmed? If you need to reach out to someone here are some mental health hotlines below for different countries. Look after yourself and those around you - stay safe!

Emma Watson and her thoughtful fashion (Blog Post / Lifestyle article)
Emma Watson has always been a loud voice in the world of celebrity activism. She stood firmly at the forefront of many political causes, from speaking to world leaders about the meaning of feminism as a Women Goodwill Ambassador for the UN, to talking out about environmental concerns.
Just this month, Emma was a guest editor of Vogue Australia, where she wrote about the rise of thoughtful fashion and the power of the consumer. In her article, she talks about ‘a one-degree shift,’ a small positive change that you could make in your life to create a ripple effect for more substantial change.
Emma is also an avid supporter and testimonial for the Green Carpet Campaign, which she described on Instagram as a movement that focuses on ‘local craft and production, artisan skills, the environment, sustainability and the longevity of fashion!’
The Green Carpet Campaign challenges celebrities to work with designers that are experimenting and exploring alternative methods and materials that are environmentally sustainable. The challenge was the brainchild of Livia Firth. In 2009, she came up with the idea, inspired by her desire to promote sustainable and ethical design techniques in the high-end fashion world.
Five different designers took up Firth’s call to craft eco-friendly outfits, and Emma Watson signed on to wear each sustainable piece. Many celebrities and designers are now taking part in the Green Carpet Challenge, such as Margot Robbie, and Lupita Nyong’o.
Today, there are Green Carpet Fashion Awards in Italy, which will feature eminent labels leading the way, including Gucci, Fendi, Armani, and Prada, among others. The rise of eco-friendly clothing is an excellent opportunity for celebrities to make a difference and also enable the consumers to finally make that ‘one-degree shit’ and purchase clothes that are made locally, from sustainable materials.
Emma Watson's message is empowering and compelling, we all have the power to make a change and a big difference, even with an apparently small shift in our habits.
