Yeah so unfortunately, my friend was right. Muttering 'I'm gonna put on the greatest talent show this town has ever seen' darkly to myself is not only vastly funnier than saying I'm gonna kms, but is also somehow more concerning to anyone who might overhear it

My Current Inventory of Magic Tools
Here's a list of tools I use in my spiritual practice that can inspire others that are on this path! While some are heritage pieces that cost a lot of money up-front due to craftsmanship, the every-day tools are pretty inexpensive. For example, most candles can be found at the dollar store, and incense can be personalized to your taste. For my practice, I use cedar incense, since it is known as a cleansing plant in the Christian tradition, and many Acadian and Québécois households used cedar on Palm Sunday before palms became widely available.
Most of the heritage pieces, for anyone wanting to participate, I strongly encourage investing a few extra dollars to get good quality items! It will last you years of magical practice, and you can use them with pride.

La ceinture fléchée - the woven sash
A symbol of identity to the Métis living on the Canadian plains, the historical Huron-Wendat people, and historically worn by French voyageurs and fur traders and their indigenous partners in trade, these sashes were strapped around the waist. These were mostly useful in keeping the woollen coats closed, store belted tools, help with the strain of carrying heavy pelts, and prevent hernias and back strain on long canoe expeditions. The long strands on the end could also be used as impromptu sewing thread. These sashes would reach about 15cm to 25cm and its length easily passes 2 metres. These sashes were traded among indigenous groups for furs, and later, by the Hudson's Bay Company in the 19th century. It became a part of the traditional Québecois peasant clothing at least since 1776. As the sash travelled upriver to the plains and beyond, Métis groups adopted the sashes, elaborated on its craftsmanship, and truly made it one of their most recognized symbols. Depending on where the sash is woven, the colours can change. For example, for Québec, they preferred a blue colour scheme, for Montréal, red, and for those woven in between Ottawa and the Red River, black was more prominent. Hand-woven sashes can take up to 500 hours to complete. (1)
The one pictured above I bought from Etchiboy, a Métis artisan. The sash I bought was inspired from the Assomption sash motif, one of the oldest known woven patterns from the 18th century. I wear it on my woodland wanderings, for rituals, and cultural days. I especially wear it in winter to keep my coat closed. I chose to adopt the sash into my practice after lots of research. It is an item of rich history between the French and their indigenous allies, and a consequence of the fur trade in our country. I encourage anyone who's interested to buy from artisans who hand-weave them! There are machine-woven ones nowadays that might be less expensive, but nothing beats the quality of good wool and good weaving. With the richness of variety in the weaving patterns depending on the region they're from, why not have a sash that harkens back to the history of your region?

The walking stick or 'le gourdin'
In Québécois folktales, the stick, known as 'the gourdin', was most seen as a gift from a woodland fairy (like a guardian of all trees, or a mistress of the birds) to the intrepid hero Ti-Jean. This magical stick could thwack all his adversaries with the simple command of "tappe, gourdin!" (slap, stick!), among other fabulous deeds (2) This stick was a tool of protection on long journeys fraught with peril. So, what better companion to the Canadien witch than a walking stick? I use mine for every excursion, and have added to it some talismans of a wolf, owl and skull to keep evil spirits at bay. There's also a portable rosary around the stick, and the Ste. Anne of Beaupré religious medal. Historically, she was often a saint prayed to by voyageurs before they undertook the long and perilous journey to the fur trading posts, usually near present-day Montreal. (3)
Tumblr media
The pocket knife
The pocket knife is a multi-talented tool of our trade! It can carve folksy figurines, cut wooden branches for weaving, harvest plants, cut curses, and keep les feux-follets (willow-the-wisps) at bay. Folklore has it that if you're out camping in the woods, fold you knife so that it creates a 90-degree angle, and stick it into the bark of a tree bordering your campsite. In the morning, if the blade is bloody, chances are it was the feux follet being intrigued by the space between the blade and the tree, and cutting its throat, thereby being free from its doomed roaming. (4) It is also a well-known tool in case you need to free a loup-garou (werewolf) from its curse by cutting it on its white spot on the forehead where he previously received communion as a kid. (5) By extension, it is a vital tool to break curses. Of course, don't make anyone bleed with the knife. That goes without saying. Treat the knife well, keep it sharp.
Tumblr media
The rosary
Yes, my path has Catholic tools in it. Of course! Quebecois and Acadians of my ancestry were Catholic people primarily. It is a versatile tool in my practice, used for shellwork as well as meditative prayer. For those who are interested in praying the Rosary traditionally, I'll create a separate post. For shellwork purposes, I usually say a round of "Hail Mary" ten times before starting a spell for the ultimate protective shield. There is also known folk uses for the rosary in Acadian and Québécois communities. For example, to fidget with the rosary without intent or purpose brings about the Devil. (6) The rosary can also be used as a tool to find lost items. Simply toss the rosary over your shoulder, and the crucifix will point in the direction of the lost item. If you want good weather on your wedding day, hang up your rosary on your laundry cord the day before. (7). Rosaries nowadays even come in decade forms as portable rings for your pocket, and some are actual rings you can wear on your finger. I got a few rosaries myself. One for special rituals (I never toss that one over my shoulder!), and cheaper, more portable options for the tossing spell.
Tumblr media
Holy medals
I amassed quite a collection of holy medals for individual saints. Other notable ones are those for the souls in Purgatory (worn on All Souls Day), the Holy Spirit at (worn on Pentecost or when I do divination), Jesus the Shepherd (it's comforting), Stella Maris (patron saint of Acadians). I have a few of the same for more frequented purposes, for example, I keep a Saint Luke medal on my artist's pencil case, since he is the patron saint of artists. Traditionally in Acadian communities, it was known that when your day was going awfully, and your bread dough just wouldn't rise, you just needed to boil some holy medals in water to turn your luck around (8). They are quite inexpensive, so it's fast and easy to grow a collection in a short period of time. Many catholic retailers sell them.
Tumblr media
Divination tools : the playing cards, dice and coin
My divination tools can be found in anyone's cupboard and drawers. The trusty playing cards deck nowadays comes in such amazing variety of art, the one I picked for myself was the Bicycle Aviary Playing Cards. It has such a lovely folk art vibe to them! The way to divine them comes from sources of card-playing and superstitions from history and folktales from folklorist Marius Barbeau, and people over centuries carrying around the cards for entertainment and perhaps a glimpse into their futures. One guide on reading the cards: Fifty-Four Devils: The Art & Folklore of Fortune-Telling with Playing Cards by Cory Thomas Hutcheson. Dice can also be used in the same manner if you're doing a numerology-based divination. The coin can be used as a simple yes or no divination by playing 'heads or tails'. The coin can be a beautiful commemorative coin like mine, or a simple 'cenne noire' (blackened penny), or whatever currency you have on hand.
Tumblr media
The sewing kit and fibre arts
I wanted to add this iconic cookie tin into the folk witch's repertoire, because we all had grandmothers who had this tin lying around with their tools to mend and sew anything. In my practice, and in my hobbies, I make clothing and I embroider. I can use this tin to house my relevant supplies to have some sacred time darning old socks, creating spiritual garments by hand, or embroidering pretty things. You can also draw sigils on the rim's inner side for blessing your items inside! There's also other uses for some of these tools in your home! For example, my great-great grandmother used to use her thimble to create the holes in her croxignoles, these woven doughnut style rings from the Magdalen Islands.
Tumblr media
Musical spoons
Musical spoons, sometimes made of wood to be used for musical purposes, as shown here, or made from every-day metal spoons held together for the same effect, are an iconic instrument in French-Canadian folk music. I would recommend learning how to play them rhythmically and to use that as a grounding tool. I just find these way more authentic than a drum. Not to mention rhythmic foot tapping and step dances are frequently used in our folk music to set up a beat.
Tumblr media
Woven Cloths
These beautiful cloths or 'serviettes' were woven by my mother on a giant hand-loom, often employed by local farmer's guilds in Québec. Les Cercles des Fermières du Québec sometimes has craft fairs where they sell these among other hand-crafted items. In folklore, the cloth was present when Ti-Jean needed to create a magical feast on the fly, create a magical tent for shelter, or carry around all his tools for his journey. These cloths however were almost always given by a fay creature, so best be cautious in eating food from it. Nowadays, it can be used as altar cloths, protective shields for your tools, or to apply healing energy to an ailment you carry. (9) I use mine to do my card readings, wrap special items. If you are lucky enough to find a 'catalogne', which is a heavy blanket woven on those big looms from scraps of old t-shirts, cottons and the like, that's like, a massive cloth you can have over your bed and its folkloric properties can be used for protection and good dreams. It is also the best weighted blanket for anxiety, tried and tested by me! Mine was woven by my grandmother.

THE ASTEROIDS OF PAIN, LOSS AND ABUSE
- source
◊(5) ASTRAEA
Staying until the bitter end. While this may show someone with perseverance, the asteroid Astraea more often indicates someone who stays in a bad job/relationship/friendship far too long, or doesn’t know when to let go.
◊(6) HEBE
While asteroid Hebe normally indicates service-oriented work, such as clerks, waiters or administrative assistants, I’ve also known Hebe to show up in relationship readings where one of the partners was a slave to the other.
◊(18) MELPOMENE
Grief, loss, mourning. Next to any of the love asteroids (Amor, Eros, Psyche) this can make for disastrous or painful love affairs, and can even indicate death or loss of a partner.
◊(28) BELLONA
Bellona was the Roman Goddess of War. While not necessarily bad (it can stand for an assertive, power-house type of personality, particularly in women), Bellona strongly placed in charts can be extremely confrontational or willing to fight.
◊(55) PANDORA
Pandora is both an asteroid as well as a Moon to Saturn, here we only speak about the asteroid Pandora. Many of are familiar with ‘Pandora’s Box’; this asteroid is named after the very same lady who famously released evil energy into the world by opening a box sent to her by the Gods. Similar to the Christian myth, Pandora was the original woman, fashioned out of water and earth, and of course, everything wrong with humanity is her fault (eye roll).
Pandora’s themes include: curiosity, especially curiosity that ‘kills the cat’,  initiating change through curiosity, unintended consequences, caught off-guard, restlessness, rebelliousness, meddling troublemaker.
◊(56) MELETE
Melete is connected to the Greek word for anxiety, and as such, can indicate anxiety disorders, panic attacks and other forms of mental anguish.
◊(60) ECHO
Echo was the fairy-like creäture that fell in love with Narcissus but was ignored and held in disdain by him. Eventually, she became such a shell of a being that all that was left of her was her echo.
When poorly afflicted, Echo individuals do not believe in themselves, copy others, have little original thought, have no self-esteem or self-worth or have a hard time valuing/defending them against narcissistic partners.
◊(71) NIOBE
Grief, sorrows. Niobe loses her entire family.
◊(73) KLYTIA
Jealousy, especially acts driven by jealousy that end poorl, a tattle-tale, a gossip. Desperate, senseless romances. Being in love but being ignored.
Klytia was in love Apollo (or Helios, the Sun God), but he had another lover. Dejected, Klytia told Apollo’s potential father-in-law, who killed his own daughter as a punishment for her actions. With Apollo’s love gone, Klytia hope’s to be snatched up by her paramour – but he once again ignores her, and she withers away on a rock, staring at him, until she dies.
◊(84) KLIO
Asteroid Klio is commonly associated with history, storytelling and writing, so is not a ‘bad’ asteroid per se. However, when asteroid Klio is poorly aspected in the chart, there can be an attachment to ‘history’ or to the story that keeps running in one’s mind, which leads to a type of neuroses about the event, person or situation.
◊(111) ATE
Goddess of blind folly, rashness, infatuation, and mischief. Ate was said to be behind the curse that started the Trojan War. Ate may show where one is likely to respond to real or imagined threats in an exaggerated fashion.
◊(128) NEMESIS
Nemesis, enemy, downfall, revenge.
◊(157) DEJANAIRA
Abuse, violation of physical boundaries, sexual abuse. I have seen asteroid Dejanaira come up time and time again as a reliable indicator of childhood abuse, especially sexual abuse.
See also: Nyctimene (2150)
◊(171) OPHELIA
Although asteroid Ophelia has many themes, many astrologers have noticed a link between this asteroid and accidental drownings.
◊(208) LACRIMOSA
“Weeping”, tears, grief, sadness.
◊(239) ADRASTAEIA
“Who does not flee”; “the inescapable one”. Asteroid Adrastaeia can show those who do not leave abusive situations, or, can show moments and traumas where we were unable to escape, as in the case of abusive childhoods. This asteroid can also talk about areas of wounding we cannot escape, such as alcoholism or drug abuse.
◊(248) LAMEIA
Grief at losing a child, sterility, sleeplessness, trauma, PTSD, intense jealousy from other women, ‘vampires’ (Lameia sucks the ‘lifeblood’ out of young men).
Lameia had affairs with Zeus, and many children from him. Hera killed all of her children as a punishment. She became overcome with grief, unable to sleep, and thereafter alternated between sucking the life out of young men, or murdering other people’s children.
◊(273) ATROPOS
Asteroid Atropos is one part of the “Moira” fates (in addition to Klotho & Lachesis). Atropos as a theme has a relationship to endings of all kinds: relationships, business, death, accidents, and illness.
◊(258) TYCHE
Tyche was the Greek Goddess of Fortune, so when afflicted can show poor fortune or luck.
◊(381) MYRRHA
Can indicate incest, sexual abuse or sexual relationships that go against ‘natural law’ (bestiality, incest, et. al.).
◊(399) PERSEPHONE
Persephone’s story is one of the great myths of Greece. I say great, but as we’ll see, it quickly turns into not so great.
Persephone (aka Proserpina)  is attached to her mother Ceres – they are the best of friends and completely inseparable. Persephone is well-known for her beauty, but constantly rebuffs marriage proposals to stay as companion to her mother. One day Persephone is out picking flowers when the God of the Underworld Pluto (aka Hades) kidnaps her; he makes her the Queen of the Underworld. Nice having a title and all, but surely not one’s first choice. To protest, Persephone stopped eating when she was in the Underworld. Eventually, her mother finds her and negotiates a life where she will live above ground 6 months of the year, and below the other 6.
Persephone and Proserpina’s themes are: separation anxiety, separation from the parents, rape, retreating into fantasy after a trauma, loss of innocence, being ‘pulled into the underworld’, PTSD, addictions, abduction, food complexes and/or anorexia, relationships with ‘Plutonian’ partners.
Nota Bene: it’s possible this myth has been twisted, and many people note that in some versions of the myth Persephone willingly went into the Underworld with the dark and sexy Pluto.
Also look at: (26) Proserpina.
◊(407) ARACHNE
Weaving, woven items, weaving things together, jealousy of god-given talents, talents that lead to pain or persecution, arrogance, boastfulness.
Arachne was an incredibly talented weaver, and compared herself to the Gods (and actually, said she was better than them!). She unknowingly challenged a disguised Athena, Goddess of weaving, to a weaving duel. In the end, Arachne can’t go without diminishing the Gods, therefore royally pissing of Athena, who as punishment turns her into a spider.
◊(430) HYBRIS
“Hubris”, excessive pride, arrogance or foolishness that leads to an inevitable downfall. Over-confidence. Any behaviours that challenge the “gods” of your life (parents, partners, bosses).
◊(588) ACHILLES
The asteroid Achilles is one of my key tools, alongside (3811) Karma and (2060) Chiron. Achilles is incredible for highlighting potential areas of deep wounding, or the ‘achilles heel’ of the chart when prominently placed in the natal chart.
◊(638) MOIRA
Moira is derived from the Greek word ‘the fates’. Moira’s location by sign and house can indicate an area of life that is governed by fate or karma. Moira may show ‘negative’ karma in a chart or a very fated life.
◊(849) ARA
Asteroid Ara is only bad, per se, when poorly positioned or afflicted within a natal chart. Normally, asteroid Ara would show where and how one is likely to give aid or be aided by others. When opposed or squared by natal planets, Ara can stand for a lack of aid, care or support.
◊(896) SPHINX
Secrets, hidden things, mysteries. Bill Clinton had the asteroid Sphinx next to the asteroids ‘Paul’ and ‘Monica’. Need I say more?
◊(897) LYSISTRATA
Asteroid Lysistrata refers to the heroine of an infamous Greek comedy of the same name. The women of Greece, led by Lysistrata, led a protest of sexual abstinence against all men until they stopped the perpetual wars.
When badly afflicted, Lysistrata can talk about someone that uses sex as a tool of manipulation or power.
◊(1198) ATLANTIS
Related to the mythical, lost kingdom of Atlantis, asteroid Atlantis can also talk about excessive pride or hubris that leads to a downfall, as well as extinction, cultural snobbery, a sense of imminent doom, expiation; use of karma to rationalize events.
◊(1277) DOLORES
Pains, suffering. Can indicate illness and agony.
◊(1489) ATTILA
Named after Attila the Hun, the famous barbarian warrior. When afflicted, this asteroid can indicate a kind of ruthless, all-or-nothing brutality to winning or victory.
◊(1566) ICARUS
Accidents, excessive risk, gambles that don’t pay off, moving too fast, driving too fast, games of speed/risk. Muhammad Ali had Icarus next to his Sun – talk about speed!
◊(1685) TORO
Aggression, strength and power. Not bad unless afflicted in the chart. I don’t like it when Toro crops up around a personal planet like Venus, as it can sometimes indicate violent or intense and aggressive relationships.
◊(1808) BELLEROPHON
Overreaching, fatal crashes, being disabled or ‘crippled’ in some way.
◊(1866) SISYPHUS
Unending suffering and struggle. Being forced to do the same thing over and over. Draining monotony. Stuck in a vicious cycle of rebuilding.
Sisyphus was punished by being forced to roll a boulder up a mountain every day, only to awaken the next morning and find himself again at the bottom of the mountain. Groundhog Day, for Greeks. He was later freed by Heracles.
◊(1896) BEER
Just like it says on the tin: Beer is commonly found in strong positions in the chart of heavy drinkers, or those who have or have had issues with alcohol.
◊(1912) ANUBIS
Anubis is named after the jackal-headed Egyptian God of the Dead. Often, Anubis strongly placed in a chart means that death is more than a passing issue; death may become the focus or a recurrent theme in the individual’s life.
◊(2102) TANTALUS
‘Tantalus’ is closely related to our modern word, ‘tantalize’. Themes here include: always out of reach, never getting what you want, testing others, taunting others, nearly having it, temptation without satisfaction.
The myth of Tantalus is pretty full-on. Originally known for having stolen ambrosia from Mount Olympus and taking it down to humans (therefore revealing the secrets of the Gods to humans), he then served up his dead son’s body parts to the Gods of Olympus. As punishment, he was kept in a pool of water with branches of fruit above him. Whenever he was thirsty and tried to drink the water, it would evade him; when he felt hungry and reached for a piece of fruit, the branches would lift out of reach.
◊(2060) CHIRON
Chiron was the first centaur discovered and equally the most well-known of the mythical centaurs; arguably Chiron is the most important of all the centaurs. He was the son of Saturn and a sea-nymph. Early on, he is abandoned by his mother (his first ‘wounding’), who is horrified at his half-man, half-human form; he is soon taken to the Sun god Apollo, who teaches Chiron everything he knows about the healing arts. Chiron is later wounded by an arrow from Hercules. The wound never heals despite his healing knowledge, which explains Chiron’s well-known nickname as the “Wounded Healer”.
Chiron’s themes include: the “wounded healer” archetype, learning through suffering, compassion for others’ suffering, resistance to pain, “liminal” reality, pre-birth influences, ancestral influences, exile, healing, transformation.
◊(2150) NYCTIMENE
Nyctimene is a particularly painful asteroid. Nyctimene was the daughter of a prominent man, who is seduced by her father. She hides away in the forest out of shame, and is turned into an owl by Athena (note, that of course, owls are a nocturnal bird).
Nyctimene in a birth chart closely aspecting the Sun, Moon, Venus, or strongly placed in the 5th or 8th Houses has on several occasions indicated issues of incest, rape, and abuse by the father or father figure.
◊(2938) HOPI
This asteroid is named after the Hopi tribe of North America. Hope has astrological significance of ambush, attacks, prejudice, territorial disputes, Native Americans, minority experiences. Ambushes can be psychological as well as physical.
◊(3200) PHAETHON
Phaethon is generally associated with out of control, dangerous behaviour, people that get carried away, car crashes and accidents.
Phaethon was the son of the Sun God, Helios. He asked his father if he could drive the chariot of the sun – but when he took the reigns things span out of control rather quickly. The Sun chariot ended up scorching Africa, accounting for it’s desert areas; eventually Zeus struck him off the chariot to save the world and Phaethon died.
◊(3811) KARMA
Karma, like Achilles and Atropos, is one of my absolute go-to asteroids. Asteroid Karma stands for exactly what it should: Karmic connections, relationships, pain or circumstances that go back lifetimes. Sometimes in life we may feel that certain events were ‘fated’ or pre-told. Asteroid Karma is a great indicator of such energy within a birth chart.
◊(4451) GRIEVE
Grieve, grief, mourning, sorrow.
◊(5335) DAMOCLES
“The sword of Damocles” is quite well known as an expression: in short, it encapsulates the danger that rulers/leaders live with as a by-product of their power. Said another way – with great power comes great responsibility.
Generally in chart readings, I see Damocles in the chart of very powerful and successful people (investment bankers, military generals). On the other hand, their jobs/success/position stifle their ability to have a relationship, spend time with family, or have true friends. This is where asteroid Damocles can come in.
◊(6630) SKEPTICUS
Skepticus means skeptical, skepticism, doubting or discerning. This doesn’t have to be a bad asteroid whatsoever, as I’ve seen it prominently placed in the charts of journalists and researchers, as an example. However, when Skepticus is placed very near to asteroids like the Moon or Venus, the ‘skepticism’ carries over to emotions and/or love, creating an impossible situation.
◊(8690) SWINDLE
Lie, cheat, fraud, steal. Swindle has got it ALL. Would it surprise you if Swindle shows up prominently in the chart of the Donald?
No, no it would not.
◊(26955) LIE
Lies, liars, lying. Not much more to say than that – when you find this little dude in close aspect to someone, run. Especially potent when used to look at charts for business transactions and mergers.
◊(37117) NARCISSUS
I’m sure according to Narcissus, I’ve saved the best for last. Narcissus is naturally named after the infamous Narccissus, who loved himself so much that he became transfixed with his own image and committed suicide when he could not have the object of his desire.
Narcissus obviously talks about grandiose consideration for one’s self, disapproval or disinterest in others, self-obsession and the anger that comes from being spoiled, or not getting what you want.

Annual Profection Years in Astrology
Tumblr media
https://horoscopes.astro-seek.com/annual-profections-astrology-calculator
Annual profections is an ancient Hellenistic astrological method to see what the focus of the year ahead will be from the point of your birthday, based on your own natal chart. This method only works with whole sign astrology. You can access and download your own profection chart from astro-seek.com, just like I have for Sagittarius risings.
This is my basic interpretation, which has helped me understand annual profections, and I hope it does the same for someone else.
Every year, from birth we move through each profection year. Example: when I was four years old I was in a 5th house profection year, when I was 12 I was in a first house profection year. We go through the cycle of all 12 houses within astrology throughout our lives giving us different focuses and themes for the year ahead.
By understanding the basics of the houses you will be able to understand how the different annual profections will show up as you progress through your life.
Each annual profection has a time lord based on the sign each house is in within your personal chart, so if you are a Libra rising and you’re in a 6th house profection year the time lord will be Jupiter.
Quick note: with this type of astrology there is no Neptune, Uranus, Pluto as time lords as they were not discovered at the time of this methods invention.
A SNIPPET ABOUT EACH ANNUAL PROFECTION YEAR
I wrote a post a long time ago about the houses which can be found here https://curiouswitchcollection.tumblr.com/post/666199574492430336/houses-in-astrology but I have copied and pasted some of the important parts.
First House
The house of the self. Depending on the sign you have in your first house it will indicate how you come across to others, how you behave in the first instance, your outlook on life and in some cases has an impact on your appearance.
The first house profection years occur during the first year of life, aged 12 and 24, as so on for every 12 years. Age 12 is when a lot of people move to secondary school, which gives them a chance to meet new people, maybe even expand their horizons. At 24 I remember I moved jobs to something completely new, hoping to reinvent and challenges myself.
Second House
The houses of values. How you value yourself, people, places and things. It can often provide insight into people’s relationship to their possessions and money.
Occurs at ages 1, 13, 25 and so on…at age 1 children tend to become more aware of what it is that they want and who it is that they value in their lives. At age 13, children are going through a lot of changes internally so may start to question the values put on them and begin to push against the family values than before.
Third House
The house of communication. How you communicate to others, how your mind works and how you express yourself. It can also indicate how you learn, the best environment for you to be in and your relationship towards any siblings.
Occurs at ages 2, 14, 26 and so on…at age 2 children tend to be communicating more with speech and at 14 you may have become more vocal about the things you like and don’t like. I remember at age 14 just wanting to ARGUE about EVERYTHING all the time, whether that is because it’s a third house profection year or just being a teenager is for you to decide. For me I was 2 years old when my younger brother came into the world…-_- still not over it!
Fourth House – Imum Coeli
The house of home and family. How you are towards family, home life, your roots, the conditions of your early life, traditions, parents and property (in the home sense). It can also be an indicator of your internal world, especially your inner child as you grow older.
Occurs at ages 3, 15, 27 and so on. The fourth house profection years themes and focus is around family and roots, and arguably most importantly your inner child. These years can symbolise something key happening that impacted on your inner child or a period of time where you really put the work in to connect with your inner child and value them as an aspect.
Fifth House
The house of creativity, children, love affairs, objects of affection such as pets and friendships as well as personal self-expression.
Occurs at ages 4, 16, 28 and so on. The fifth house profection years themes are that of creativity, embracing new ideas, maybe starting new projects that have interested you for a long time. When I was in my fifth house annual profection year I really took the time to embrace my creative side and had SO MANY arty projects on the go. It was also a year of building new connections and friendships, one of those being with my partner.
Sixth House
The house of work and health. This house governs ‘service’ to others and to yourself. How you look after yourself and those around you. It also indicates your attitudes towards duties and daily tasks.
A sixth house profection year can be a tough one. It’s focus on health and work can really impact day to day lives - I say this because this is the year I have been experiencing and it has been one of the most challenging in a long time. This profection year occurs at ages 5, 17 and 29. Ages 5 my Granddad passed away, aged 17 both my Nana’s passed away and my Mum left my Dad meaning I had to go out and find jobs to help keep my family afloat as well as maintaining a school schedule and this year, aged 29 I have been uncharacteristically poorly, especially when I haven’t taken the time to be of service to myself i.e resting when needed, over looking after other people’s needs.
Seventh House - Descendant
The house of relationships and partnerships. This house indicates the type of people you attract, would be most suited too as well as the shadow aspect of yourself. Ever heard about other people being mirrors for our own shadow? This is one of themes of the seventh house. It indicates how you go about relationships and partnerships - romantic and business.
Occurs at ages 6, 18, 30 and so on. This year the key themes are partnerships and relationships. In my experience, age 18 was when I had my first proper relationship. 30 is often an age where people experience the ‘next step’ in their relationships. This year may highlight your own shadow and projections onto those around you more clearly.
Eighth House
The house of birth, death and transformation and all the things that come with it such as, inheritance, sex and spirituality. It can be associated with joint finances and other people’s money.
Occurs at ages 7,19 and 31. Expect a year of deep transformational changes within yourself and your life. All for your own good, even if it doesn’t feel like it at the time.
Ninth House
The house of the higher mind, philosophy, travel, religion and higher education. This house would indicate how you approach your studies, or your religious/spiritual beliefs. It governs how you ‘think’ about abstract ideas and philosophical concepts.
Occurs at ages 8, 20 and 32. The key themes that may be highlighted during this year are about expanding your consciousness and learning.
Tenth House - Midheaven
The house of career, ambitions, public standing and attainment and within that all the things that come with it such as how you work, how you feel towards authority. The midheaven is a place in the chart that would indicate someone’s preferred way of working or career. The midheaven governs your public life (opposite to the Imum Coeli).
Occurs at ages 9, 21 and 33 and so on. Age 21 was the age I got my first teaching job after studying hard at university. Age 9, I distinctly remember beginning to challenge authority, especially my parents, which did not end well :/ . This profection year could indicate a year where career paths are changed or you decide that the way you have been working no longer works for you.
Eleventh House
The house of hopes and wishes, ideals, humanitarianism, groups and friends. This house indicates how easily someone may make friends, or otherwise, how well they can assimilate to new groups and what their world view is of their fellow man.
Occurs at ages 10,22 and 34 and so on. I remember at both ages 10 and 22 seeking out new groups and new friendships, more like-minded people. I found friendships quite challenging during these years as well. This year can be one of really finding your tribe and in turn more of yourself and your beliefs.
Twelfth House
The house of spirituality, the subconscious, the hidden, secrets and fears. This house often indicates where someone’s blind spots are – depending on the planets that are present. For example, if someone’s moon is in the twelfth house, they may not be able to identify their emotions easily, feeling as if they are hidden from them. The lesson of the house is to bring forward the unseen into the seen, for ourselves. Scorpio is in my twelfth house, which would indicate a transformative quality to the areas that this house governs.
Occurs at ages 11 , 23 and 35 and so on. This profection year can be a challenge, just like the 6th house profection year. A lot of things that were once hidden may come up in your life for you to work through and look deeper at.

i promise you that nobody has ever in their life thought "wow, this other person inserted absolutely zero friction into my life. they were so efficient and worked so hard to get out of my way. i love them for that." not EVER. not ever ever. if you sublimated your own personhood that hard they didn't even think of you at all. the people we remember in life are the people who got in our way a little, and broke up our routine, who asserted their perspective and gave us something new to think about or feel. that's how we form real relationships -- by inconveniencing one another and actually having a marked influence on one another's lives. to be loved is to be annoyed. and to be annoying at someone. and to be thankful, at the end of it all, that somebody broke you out of yourself for a moment and got in your way.
it's great to be considerate and obviously not every interaction is gonna be special, but you can't go through life as if every person is a cashier that you don't want to get mad at you for asking for an extra bag.

A really funny tumblr thing is people using "as someone with a special interest in x" as their like source of legitimacy on something.
it's being used as shorthand for "as someone who has done a lot of research on the topic" but it's funny because ppl have such a hard time realising they're capable of being wrong about their special interests and they're not just magically more able to aquire correct information than everyone else.
your special interest is great but let's see some Primary sources!
