@inquisitorhierarch since you’re late to the party here you go one of my favorite posts about my kadara bf lol
I love that rooftop scene. I can’t stop watching it. The mise-en-scene and writing make for utterly gorgeous shots. If you want me to fall in love with Reyes again, sit me down and have me watch it.
Just look at how the two are seated. Ryder faces the sunset and the horizon. They sit well-composed, eyes well-focused as they take their swig of the whiskey. Reyes, on the other hand, sits perpendicular to Ryder. The direction of his gaze and his position put him well behind Ryder’s shadow, and each time Reyes addresses a question to Ryder, he peers out, which casts brief slivers of sunlight on his face.
When Ryder finally asks Reyes why he came to Andromeda, our favorite smuggler doesn’t even move out or peer out. His body language tapers down to a minimum, and even his expression looks afraid if not intimidated when the truth finally comes out. “To be someone.”
And fucking Ryder. Cute as fuck Ryder. Ryder is the one who hops over the corner that separates them. Ryder is the one who edges closer, tells Reyes, “You’re someone to me” as they look him in the eye, granting him a recognition of his own humanity after having been sitting in shadows for so long.
Even if you do this scene as Reyes’s friend, it’s incredibly poignant and tender.
Most of Andromeda up until that point had been a battle against logistics. Will there be enough food? Are there enough resources to support an x number of people? Will these two competing political factions provide the outpost Ryder needs? So the rooftop scene is very refreshing, and it’s my favorite out of all the romance ones for really obvious and biased reasons (I know). But if should list at least one it’s that both the words and the shot composition make the sincerity of the scene come off as a surprise but a welcome one. It isn’t some natural progression into a relationship (like imo the other LIs make me feel like we’re scratching off notches until we can do the deed, noah fence); it’s a hidden pocket of vulnerability as fleeting as the time they got to enjoy a sunset. It’s as spirited and arbitrary as running off from a storage closet after having stolen whiskey. It’s youthful infatuation, respectful admiration, and sentimentality making for a quiet acceptance of how far we’ve come.

the fact that sci-fi keeps appropriating elements of black oppression for their shitty robot slavery stories is SO ugly

vivienne was the only cool mage in dai……thats jus Facts.
dorian..dweeb. gets points for being gay and having cool robes but the undercut..the beige pajamas..the cognitive dissonance regarding his support of slavery…we love an idiot who needs to attend racial sensitivity lessons
solas…just..the absolute worst. ugly as shit..with the naked molerat complexion and the skyrim bone structure. cant fucking dress himself..comes back to brag about how he finessed you but hes wearing a wolf pelt with golden leggings so you know you cant take him and his ego seriously..dumb fucking genocidal idiot
and then youve got vivienne………….perfect. we stan a woman with ambition and compassion. we love One fashion icon. she canonically freezes men for being racist. knight enchanters are the best mages in inquisition. fuck demon lives madame de fer is skinny.

i meant to make this post a few days ago when me and @casijaz were fresh off the complaining for it but: fantastic racism as a concept should die and die quickly
elves and robots and mages and dwarves and dragonfolk don’t exist and as far as we see aliens haven’t made contact with us so like, writing stories where you steal the narrative of what people of color go thru and apply it to a fictional (oft white or white coded) race in an effort to teach about racism is really bad bc you’ll always get white fans unironically calling a black woman racist because she doesn’t like aliens or synths or whatever
bc that also happens, bc for some reason game/show/book creators think the best way to show their fantasy racism is almost always having their characters of color be the mouthpiece for it and again, you get people unironically calling them racist for not liking a white elf
it’s super dumb

Honestly, the terrible Reyes opinions out there had me riled, but it’s like we all debated this endlessly. And the point is we all know that the writers were racist af and clumsy with handling Reyes and Sloane’s situation. But then I remember this has all been said before, and it’s just like honestly? Let wrong opinions be wrong.
