every time u make a post saying superman would do something important (attend Pride, attend Christmas, etc) in Gotham with the batfam rather than with his friends+family in the city he loves, an angel loses its wings
#superman is not a prop who only exists to validate the batfam#he's a character with 80 years of history and an enormous supporting cast#and he adores Metropolis

An Important Warning:
On November 1, 2024, I received the below comment on one of my fics. I had replied to it, believing it to be in good faith. This person, Leaona Colin, as seen by the Ao3 comment chain and discord profile below, directly messaged me under the guise of discussing my fic, and the conversation was normal for the most part
The conversation started to change into an attempt to strong arm me into commissioning them directly (something that unfortunately does happen through a desperate measure) for an animation project. I had believed, in my naivety, that this was just two artists workshopping ideas until they had mentioned this being a "paid collaboration". Please note that I at NO POINT made any indication of wanting to make a commission or anything of the like. For the full context, I will link our discord conversation in its entirety
At this point, the conversation started to change to the commission, and in my own personal awkwardness/fear of being perceived as rude, I played along because I honestly did not know what to do next. The way that this person has approached me feels like a MUCH bigger red flag than the insane price they came up with. It would be one thing to come into my direct messages and say "hey, I'm an animator and I'm wondering if you'd be interested in commissioning me to draw [scene] as a paid commission", however what I went through was a bait and switch. I had gone into this thinking I would be entering a casual conversation about my fic, about the story, and about my writing process, but that pretense was very quickly dropped after the above polite small talk
Mind you, THIS is the animation that they seem to be requesting between 1800-2200 USD for:
I had debated whether or not I should include the video, but I feel that it is important to bring up due to the insane price and the information that @baratrongirl helped provide me with due to her husband's own experience in this industry (thank you SO much Richard!!)
I have reported the comment to Ao3 and I have reported the profile to Discord itself. This is a warning to fic authors and other fan creators to please, please, PLEASE, be on the lookout and to stay safe. I have also learned of a recent scam in Ao3/FFN comment sections where a wave of commission scammers use stolen or ai art to promote themselves and either make of with the money or send some sort of ai art. There hasn't been any mention of anything for animation, but it is very much possible that the scam is evolving, more info about this can be linked below r/FanFiction: PMs on Fanfiction.net offering me commissioned art r/AO3: Great, the art scammers are now being registered users r/AO3: These comments are starting to be an annoying trend

Artist Scam
There's an artist scam going around on all fanfiction websites (including attempts on the CFAA), whereby someone comments on a fic saying they were so inspired, they'd like to do paid work for you. Sometimes these are lazy plug-and-play comments that have no story details, sometimes they're more elaborate, but they are always a scam. Always. I'm going to be watching (this is why the invite queue has such a long delay), but if you get one of these comments via guest commenting or anything else, let me know on Discord or Tumblr ASAP.
1.) No real artists begs for commissions on peoples' fanfiction.
2.) Commercialization of the CFAA (and AO3! and every other archive running OTW-A!) is against the terms of service and will be dealt with swiftly and harshly.
3.) They'll steal your money. If they give you anything back, it'll be some lazy, AI-generated bullshit. Don't fall for it. A real artist fan of your work who was that inspired would almost always either draw for it and gift it to you, or would ask if they could draw for it and gift it to you. I've done that myself. What they will never do is come and ask you for money.
Be safe out there, this is going on everywhere.
#been getting a lot of these lately :(#the most recent one actually commented on specific events in the fic and everything#i was so disappointed when i got to the end and i realized they just wanted money :(

The Silver Age
Hal: Sinestro! The last time I saw you, you were trapped in your own mind control machine. How did you escape? Sinestro: I anticipated you trapping me in my own mind control machine, so before it happened, I sent you a psychic suggestion telling you to release me from it. Hal: That is such a clever and not at all contrived sequence of events. Sinestro: And then I started invisibly tampering with your ring so that you would throw it away and be vulnerable to my latest evil plan! Hal: Yes, but I anticipated you were behind my ring malfunctioning and made a perfect duplicate of it, which I threw away in order to trick you into thinking I was vulnerable! Sinestro: ... Hal: ... Sinestro: ... Hal: I'm tired, Sin. Sinestro: Me too.

I'm starting a collection of disaster Hal Jordan being clumsy (or unlucky) in the silver age... These are all from the first 5 issues of his solo series, which means that if you bought a Green Lantern magazine in the first couple of years from the 1960s there was 80% of chance to get a GL issue featuring a panel of a Hal Jordan knocking himself out in the middle of grave situations
(Later that percentage would drop, but the chance was always there as Hal Jordan kept falling, tripping or getting knocked out accidentally way into the 1970s)
From Green Lantern: The Silver Age Vol. 1
#green lantern#hal jordan#carol ferris#and the guardians wipe his memory more than once#its a miracle he can still spell his own name

With all due respect, some of y'all are incapable of tagging. Like seriously, you guys are the absolute worst at it.
If you tag the characters, team or ship that has actually anything to do with the post, that's fine. People get annoyed with the annoying fanon on said post and not annoyed or less annoyed abt the tagging.
But if you tag every character including their grandma (even the ones that don't have anything to do with the post) for one ooc fanony take, then people tend to get very annoyed. Plus, it's technically spam.

what are your hobbies? 🐾
Writing is the thing that takes up the majority of my time, but I also do papercrafting and jewelry making. It's to the point where I generally take my tools to work with me bc I've become the go-to person for fixing jewelry!

Here are the two Barbie customs now in my friend's collection. I'm really proud of how they turned out as I think it's a fun blend of 1980s and late 2000s doll makeup. It does make me nostalgic for Barbie customs even if Barbie nowadays isn't much to talk about as a collector or customiser. But doing these really makes me happy since I think they turned out really well.
