I think people who criticize “meaningless fluff,” “pointless angst,” and other similar styles of fan-writings, have forgotten about something called aestheticism. Art for art’s sake. Not every piece of art or writing must have some deeper meaning. Some things exist to be merely be observed or felt- not to teach a lesson or do what some think “real” literature should. 

So if you’re writing a 50K coffee shop!AU with nothing but fun shenanigans and fluff, don’t let anyone tell you it’s meaningless or pointless. The point of it is for it to be enjoyed and observed as it is. It doesn’t have to have some deep and poignant societal/political undertone or lesson for it to be a worthy piece of literature. 

A lot of popular authors have created writings which can be categorized as art for art’s sake and have contributed to aestheticism. So you are in good company.

Hey um, straight people (or lgbt people who don’t understand that people don’t want to be outed) , if a friend comes out to you as gay, lesbian, ace, aro, trans, non binary ect

Dont fucking tell anyone else, outing someone who doesn’t want to be outed is the most shattering feeling ever for the other person, you won’t seem like ‘a cool friend’ you’re not ‘making it easier for them’ you’re being an asshole and possible putting that person in danger, unless the person specifically says you can tell others, don’t fucking tell anyon

This idea came to me when I woke up first thing this morning.

Don’t let writing become a chore

Learn how to take planned breaks 

Plan reward when you reach your goals

If goals are time framed based, make sure they’re realistic.  Nothing is more discouraging then thinking you’re failing

Engage with other writers who are positive and excited about their work. 

Read books in your genre of passion. Remind yourself why you’re writing one!

Have more than one project to jump to if one starts to get stuck. 

Make writing time special, with snacks, music, candles - things you ONLY let yourself have during writing time. 

If your schedule allows, try writing at the same time every day. If its a habit, you won’t drag your feet as much. 

Talk to other writers! Tell them why you write! Even if you just scream it into the void that is Tumblr, writing it down and putting it into words is a powerful reminder of why you want to complete this project. 

Add your own, because sometimes writing starts to feel bogged down to me too, and I could always use more help
