Parker carefully leaned against the frame, pulling Lizzie up against him as his fingertips brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. All of this was a lot -- but it wasn’t like he didn’t love Lizzie. He was in love with her -- he always had been. And then her words hit him, feeling it like a punch to his gut. “Oh.” He said quietly. “I’m not going anywhere...” He started, feeling useless in this situation. “Do you not want me as Han’s father? Lizzie I’m not -- I’m not gonna let you down, I wouldn’t do that to you.” Gently he leaned down to kiss her forehead.
Lizzie didn’t move, didn’t even mold herself against him really. She just let herself be pulled and settled into his arms, her shoulders heavy with the weight of her thoughts. Why would she assume? She knew the answer, but she didn’t know how else to say it other than the words swimming around in her sad heart. “Because I’m used to you being gone.” Her eyes were still shut tight, and she couldn’t quite get herself to stop crying, either, but at least she was quiet. Calm. Maybe just tired. “I’m sorry. I don’t know what I was thinking. It’s so late. Maybe… we should just sleep on it.”

“It’s a good thing you did -- I always thought getting in an accident the worst of it would be the pain.” Parker tilted his head with a smile, not sure if he’d missed something with the stranger. “You are lucky, dude. Hey, I’m Parker by the way.”
“Well, I sort of blacked out, so I don’t remember too much of the pain.” He says with a shrug, low key a little bit satisfied with how easy it was for him to black out from pain or fear. “Yeah,” he agrees with a nod, “–I guess I’m kind of lucky in that sense.” Lucky grins at his pun and the other’s whistling. What an expressive guy.

The response from Lizzie was quicker than Parker could absorb with the new information in his mind. How did this all escalate so quickly? He was only upset because he wanted all of this so badly -- but in life right now he was nothing short of a mess. “No, Lizzie wait--” Parker tried to interject, sighing as she rolled under the covers. He pinched the bridge of his nose, shaking his head. Why did this all have to be so difficult. “Would you listen to me?” Carefully he tugged the blankets away from her and pulled her into his chest. “That’s not what I meant, Elizabeth.” He kissed the top of her head and sighed. “You’re so quick to assume -- why would you do that? I love Han. I love you. I just wanna be enough for the two of you. I can’t mess this up. Not again -- but I’m a dad... that’s a lot to take in.”
Lizzie felt the words hitting her faster than she’d expected, harder and harsher and just… not at all how she’d thought it would feel. “Oh. O-okay.” She choked, being the one to back away this time. “I understand, you’re not ready. Um.” It had sounded like he was gearing up to opt out, and although it wasn’t what she’d hoped for, she had to accept it — after all, she’d told herself for the longest time that although he was what she wanted, he was also nothing short of a pipe dream she’d lost a very long time ago. Fuck, stop crying. Shutting her eyes tight, she rolled herself under the covers, hiding her face and digging her body deep underneath the sheets so she wouldn’t have to watch him when he left. “Goodbye, I guess.”

“Talk about unfortunate, did it hurt? I mean I’m sure it did -- but I’m glad to see you’re still breathing because that sounds like something that’d ends in even bigger misfortunes.” Parker made a face following by a whistling sound effect. What was wrong with him.
“I was crossing the street on my way to work,” he starts, boot-clad toe kicking at the ground, “then a truck hit me.”

“That we can. This is really the best part of going out, dirty laundry being aired. You know as long as they don’t accident throw a punch your way -- I’ve had that happen once.”
“Well we can only hope, right? I mean he’s doing a pretty good job building up to the show if I were him I’d charge. This place was dull as hell before those two decided to air their dirty laundry.”

“Whoa, that’s a tough break, man. How’d that’d end up happening? If you don’t mind my asking.”
He smiled appreciatively, nodding his head before answering, “I got hit by a truck on my way to work.”

“Are you telling me they sell those screwball cones in the store?”
“You could get much better ice cream in a store, there’s a lot more to select from too.”

“I believe you, Mr.Best teacher.” Parker did. But his eyes didn’t even allow him to see Wilbur shuffle before it was done. Fuck, he had to lie. He was sweating nervously. “Uh yeah... I got that. He was not only letting Wilbur down, but god.
“You won’t be, I promise.” Wilbur took hold of the cards, pausing for a moment, “Okay, watch closely.” He said before shuffling the cards faster than humanly possible. “Did you get that?” He asked, handing the cards back to Parker.

“I think we’ll have to. There’s just no other option.” Parker felt tears come on -- he really loved chocolate cheesecake. “I think she’s clumsy. Or maybe she works late nights and gets tired.” Parker remained quiet wondering if she really dropped her phone having just received a text from her five minutes ago. “Do you think she’s avoiding me?” Parker noticed the fish undertone. “I always do too. I’ve never even seen a printer in our apartment.” Parker slant faced.
“We might need to start looking for them at Raley’s as a placeholder until we find another place that makes ‘em that good,” he said, slant facing. “She dropped her entire phone out the window? How is that even possible?” Teddy thought for a moment but then realized as impossible as it sounded, it was probably something he would do accidentally. “Hey… You know I’m just looking out for you, right? I think… I think there’s something a little fishy about this.” He put emphasis on the ‘fishy.’ “I thought we did… I don’t think we ever set it up though? I always print all my stuff out at work…”

You say that now and just prepare to hear sirens and people yelling for two hours straight.
For the city that never sleeps, it’s pretty quiet.

“Hey, no worries man. How’d you break that thing anyways?” Parker said pointing to his cast.
“Ah – ‘scuse me…” he murmurs to the other, shuffling to the side to fill his cup at the soda fountain. As he tries to figure out what soda would go best with this burrito and slip by, he accidentally bumps the other with his cast. “Oof, uh, sorry. I feel so clunky with this giant thing on.”
