mostly posting this because i haven't seen anyone talking about it on here. there are also lots of planetarium apps like stellarium that use your location and will show you where all the planets and constellations are. it is important to note that your night vision is much better if you're away from and phone or white light for about twenty minutes, you can use a red filter on your phone and either buy red light flashlights or put something like red cellophane over a flashlight with a rubberband. also you would be surprised how many more stars you can see with even the most basic pair of binoculars and while you're at it you can also see a lot more of them moon with them too! we did also see the orion nebula pretty clearly with our binoculars as well! it's also worth looking to see if there's a star party going on near you, sometimes people will have really cool telescopes set up that you can look through and also have many people there eager to help you out
