There wa—s a green light on t—he fire alar— m / that an—chored me down duri—ng windstorm—s when the gale would whip up u—nder the roof / thre—aten to Wizard of Oz us away

—Windy, ex. from a poem I wrote when I was 17 or so; [In my older writing,] I spoke of my reality as if recalling distant memory. Now it seems that lyrically I remain there, remain then. My body leans further into the passage of time while my creative attention catches, a skipping vinyl that really should be packed in the attic to make room for what works. My modern words on the matter, which rarely cease and plague both tongue and pen as a regional dialect of repulsive self-pity, fall out of me in present tense — my same tired muses and scenes long expired, forced to keep dancing on thin soles, a memory of a memory of a memory. Is it still happening, then? Am I hypnotized within the theatre of the mind? Am I still there? Am I still here? How much of my healing has been moving on, and how much of it has been proclaiming I am healed ?
