Okay so I got Rednote because I heard about the whole migration thing and I never bothered to sign up before, and the cultural exchange has just been really fascinating

Have been thinking about killing myself recently but David Lynch dying is a reminder to endure and keep trying to get mentally healthy despite how hard it is and live for art. Lynch has said a lot about art and depression. He said contrary to what people like to say, it was not Van Gogh‘s suffering that made him a great artist, but his love for working on art in spite of suffering. He asserts that depression and suffering are the antithesis of creativity. I think it’s incredibly necessary for every artist to hear this. It’s something I really need to hear when I feel agony over the fact I can do so little at the moment, when people expect things from me or question why I haven’t done more and tell me “I thought you would have done more by now - you used to be such a motivated and creative young girl” (actual quote from my Dad). Personally, Lynch’s wisdom stops me from feeling ashamed of myself, makes me feel really understood and gives me something to reach towards and live for every day.
