170 million americans used tiktok to engage with one another inside and outside the country and the us government just decided to cut it off. they want us uneducated and unable to communicate outside of their control. fuck this country and fuck the us government

I am posting this because it was a reply to someone else’s post but I want to use it as its own post and expand on my thoughts.

I was sitting in a livestream of one of the first people I followed in 2019, then I went to the main page and noticed that I couldn’t like or comment on anything. It felt like I was walking into a dark tunnel with no light on the other side. Finally. My last video. An edit of a poem, the video of Bilbo Baggins through his journey. And that was it. Nothing else loaded.

I even screen recorded it, in hopes I might find the person who posted it so I may try to find them and thank them for giving me such a beautiful send off.

The video had barely over 300 likes, 6 comments I couldn’t see, shared to 7 people who would never get to watch it. I wonder if it would have gotten 1k, 10k, maybe more. Maybe some of those 300 people also had that post as their last. We got to appreciate it together.

Dear friends not in America don’t take this the wrong way but please don’t tell us to just read a book or go outside

This is proof we do not live in the land of the free

We are finally starting to realize how much power our government has

They have taken a platform of free speech and thought and expression away from us

A place we can get extremely up to date news from around the world

And they have taken it

Some of us are on here on tumblr or other platforms but loosing TikTok is proof the government doesn’t care about us

Say it’s for our protection all they want. If they wanted to protect our data or us as people they woudl have banned Facebook and all other social media a long time ago bc that stuff gets breeches all the time

The current message popping up on Tiktok is frustrating, scary, and very open ended.

I don’t know what to feel until the next step happens. I have been against Trump since I learned who he was in elementary school and still am to this day— But with Tiktok being such a substantial media platform and some sort of hope that it will come back? I’d be lying to say I am not curious or that I’m holding on to that hope. Sure it could change forever if he takes it over, I’m sure most people (including myself) would flee should he be in charge. But who knows. That is why my foot is hanging off of the edge, waiting for that step.

I am not usually the type to speak my mind, but a lot of stuff happens up there and I still have all of my opinions.

With the Tiktok ban, I have become so frustrated that it needs to be written— Even if I only post a few times here. This shall be my place to write whatever.
