can I just say the story with the god who loves his beloved so much they get bad karma but keep reincarnating just to see each other "one more time" is legit the most romantic thing I've ever read. Like. Genuinely if I think about it too much I might go insane (in a good way.)

AITA for wanting to be with my boyfriend?

I (beyond gender, ageless) want my lover (currently 23, transgender male) to be a permanent fixture in a transient world, but I am an immortal called "one who spins Samsara" while my boyfriend has died countless times in my arms in the endless spinning of the wheel of time. Because his current transmigrational forms are due to me, and against dharma, he is locked in a state of perpetual negative karma. I keep asking him if he wants to be free from the confines of the world as he dies, but he always begs me to send him back to spend just one last lifetime together. This will be our 1,212th "one last lifetime." My friend (ageless, genderless) who is a deity like me tells me I cannot have a permanent relationship in an impermanent world, and as deities we both should know better than what a mortal thinks. But my beloved says I should not decide for him what he wants? I am so confused. AITA?????? Tumblr, Am I The Asshole?!

Trying to read bisexual male representation into older American media is kind of a complicated proposition because there was a long stretch where, as long as a male character was textually attracted to women, any expressions of attraction toward men were automatically assumed to be jokes in poor taste, so you could get away with male supporting characters – and occasionally even protagonists – whose bisexuality was just barely subtext, as long as you played it off as them having a weird sense of humour.

Then quite suddenly (and I want to say it happened in the early 1980s, though I can’t strongly substantiate that), that stopped being acceptable all at once, and those types of characters basically dropped off the face of the planet for about two decades.

Am I totally out to lunch here, or did something happen circa 1983 to account for that?

(To anticipate the obvious response, yes, I’m aware of when the AIDS crisis happened, but I suspect ascribing it solely to that is reductive – the period when you could get away with ironically bisexual dudes in popular media was pretty lengthy, and spanned decades when mlm were even more strongly stigmatised than they were at the height of the AIDS crisis.)

I Am A Cat - a short comic

This is a comic based on an actual event from my childhood that's been seared into my memory ever since.

i absolutely love old 60s-80s wuxia movies and have watched probably close to a hundred of them just in the last year, especially if you include some of the more wuxia-adjacent kung fu films of the era, but without question my favorite wuxia subgenre is the string of films made mostly in the 80s plus a few from the late 70s and early 90s when hong kong and taiwan movie studios started to get really weird and high concept in an effort to stand out and were churning out all kinds of movies about wizards having laser battles and shit, but since computer graphics weren't really a big thing yet everything had to be done either with practical effects or just hand-drawing the effects on the film.

i say this without an ounce of irony or condescension. there is absolutely nothing "so bad it's good" about these movies. they genuinely fucking whip ass and the amount of effort and artistry put into such weird and wild concepts is mind-blowing, especially considering many of them were made to be practically disposable and some of them only survived to today by the grace of someone happening to save the original negative or just an intact 35mm print from being tossed in a dumpster.

to that end i've been compiling a list of films in this my most beloved of genres and if you love wizard shit then you really owe it to yourself to track some of these down and give them a watch:

EDIT: forgot to mention that many of these you can find on public torrent servers like rarbg and there's a surprising number just on archive.org and youtube. but also if you can spare the cash, many excellent old hong kong movies are starting to get really nice physical media releases from boutique DVD and blu-ray distribution companies
