The Paurotis Palm
Called the Everglades Palm is a clustering palm that grows 10 to 15 feet tall and wide. This palm loves the water but will survive a drought. It grows best in hardiness zones 9b to 11. Damage to the leaves starts about 25 degrees and the trunk will freeze with temperature of 20 degrees. However the palm will regrow once the temperature warms up.

It’s time to fertilize! Routinely fertilizing your palms with the correct nutrients will encourage your palm to be green and strong. They will grow healthy which will help them resist diseases. With the right care your palm will enhance your landscape for years to come.

Picking your palms
Just a reminder. When buying your palm remember the zone you intend to plant in. So many times we hear our customers stories about how they bought a palm and it froze or died because it was too hot. Check out your hardiness zone before you buy.

Curtis digs a Butia sometimes called the Pindo palm. This salt tolerant palm prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Pindo palms are very drought tolerant and cold hardy withstanding cold down to 10 degrees. This palm is an excellent choice to landscape beach property, lake property or around the pool. And you can eat the seeds.

Yesterday was an exciting day for us. The Jewish Holiday Sukkot starts on October 16 this year. Every year they come here to gather palm fronds to build their Sukkah for the festival. It is a celebration to reaffirm our trust in our creator. May peace be with you all. Here is a link to explain more http://www.chabad.org/…/…/aid/4784/jewish/What-Is-Sukkot.htm

The Chinese Fan's romantic look of a flowing green leaf fountain makes it ideal for inside a sidewalk cutout, lining a driveway or the focal point of any small area. I just made this video about the Chinese/Fountain Palm. Enjoy

The Arecaceae Phoenix Canarniensis, at times called the Pineapple Palm because the boots that remain on the trunk and the green fronds exploding out from the top resembles a pineapple. However, more often called the Canary Island Palm because it is a native to the Canary Islands. This palm loves full sun and well-drained soil. It is tolerant to salt spray and drought. The small or large Canary Island Palm is a real showcase palm. Zone 9-11
