Is fashion art?
Designer: Iris Van Herpen
When it comes to the age old question of whether fashion is in fact art, one designer who always proves that the answer is yes is Iris Van Herpen. It’s hard to deny that the clothes she produces can not be classed as wearable works of art, as each piece is as meticulously crafted as any art masterpiece. Her designs resemble a body of sculptures more than that of a fashion collection, each piece surrounds the body in geometric shapes, creating architectural silhouettes that some how still manage to flatter the wearers body. Made from unconventional materials and with the help of 3D printing, her designs offer a look into what can be achieved with the use of modern technology, and by utilising those modern approaches to crafting clothes beautiful pieces can be created.
