America’s Dangerous Slide Towards Fascism
It’s impossible to ignore the frightening parallels between the rise of fascism in the past and what’s happening in the United States today. Since 2016, with Trump’s influence and the increasing radicalization of the far-right, we’ve seen clear warning signs of authoritarianism taking root. Allow me to break down how this is happening:
📍 A clear disdain for Human Rights: In 2018, the Trump administration’s “Zero Tolerance” policy led to the separation of thousands of children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border. Families were held in cages, with horrific stories of trauma and mistreatment. This dehumanization of immigrants echoes the authoritarian tactic of targeting vulnerable populations to instill fear and division.
📍 Nationalism & Propaganda: The “America First rhetoric continues to be a rallying cry for policies that reject global cooperation. During Trump’s presidency, he often retweeted and amplified white nationalist content, giving a platform to hate groups. In 2021, the GOP continued to push nationalist propaganda, framing any critique of the U.S. or its history as “unpatriotic” and using it to justify bans on teaching about systemic racism.
📍 Attacks on the Press: Trump consistently labeled the media as the “enemy of the people,” discrediting any news outlet that held him accountable. This rhetoric led to real consequences, including increased threats against journalists. The Committee to Protect Journalists reported a significant spike in attacks on and arrests of reporters covering protests, with the far-right continuing to demonize independent media.
📍 Undermining Democratic Institutions: In the lead-up to the 2020 election, Trump repeatedly claimed that the only way he could lose was if the election was rigged. After his loss, he and his allies spread baseless claims of voter fraud, culminating in the violent January 6th insurrection, where armed mobs stormed the Capitol, attempting to overturn the election results. Even after this attack, many members of Congress continued to support the “Big Lie,” undermining trust in democratic processes.
📍 Scapegoating and Fear: Throughout Trump’s presidency and beyond, entire groups were scapegoated. Immigrants were called “rapists” and “criminals,” and fear was spread about migrant caravans “invading” the U.S. More recently, the right has targeted LGBTQ+ people, falsely framing them as threats to children, using this fear to justify legislation stripping away rights and protections. The rise of anti-trans laws and book bans targeting diverse perspectives in schools are part of a broader campaign of hate.
These examples are part of a playbook we’ve seen before, one that uses fear, lies, and division to consolidate power. George Santayana once said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,” and the warnings of history are all around us.

Today, Donald Trump got rid of the equal opportunity act of 1965.
yesterday, he pulled out of the World Health Organization.
On Inauguration Day he threatened the country of Panama to take the canal, he started mass deportations, and Elon Musk did a nazi salut.
On Jan 20, 2025, the United States inaugurated a fascist oligarchical President.
We need to document everything.
Resistance is the path to liberation.
