Rain starved, parched…
Summer rainstorm come…
youtube
Rain is probably Madonna’s best ballad ever.
Live to Tell could be a close second. The song is brilliant.
But, the Rain song and video together exude perfection.
Besides the Bedtime Story video constantly playing at the MET Museum (NYC) because of its surrealism, the Rain video could have been on the list as well.
At a personal level, I am now at an age where I can mostly listen to mellow melodies only, Something to Remember is a favorite compilation from my young teen years. Still have the CD.
Happy Birthday, Madonna ! 🎂🎁🎉

It’s kinda hot all over Europe, actually.

With above-average temperatures, we all suffer, especially those of us susceptible to high temperatures.
The scenario of The Day After Tomorrow would not be such a bad thing right now, one could say. A mini ice-age? Why not?

Addendum: Microplastics
Since humans tend to be rather selfishly anthropocentric, let’s focus on the human, for, telling people that there are microplastic particles in the snows falling in the Himalayas and in Antarctica will probably have zero effect on any behavior.
But, telling people, especially men, that there are microplastic particles in their testicles, now that should sound off some alarm bells. (And one wonders why men's fertility rates are going down.) By the way, the particles have entered our brains as well. Only time will tell what longterm effects there will be from all this. Hopefully, we shall not become microplastic mutants.
It could be possible that the cunning petrochemical industrials may have known about the microplastic phenomena for decades, much like the tobacco industrials in relation to cigarettes and cancer, buying and/or shutting off the researchers and scientists in the process.
Researchers and scientists are human, with human fallibilities: they can either be annoyingly ideological, or they can be bought off. It’s rare to find the ones taking a more or less of a neutral approach.

Let’s not drown the world in plastic, shall we?

Essentially, the blame is placed on the consumers, but in reality, it is the petrol oil extractors and distributors who are primarily responsible for plastic production.
The idea of plastic being largely recycled is that of a false consciousness by the petrol oil companies, created to alleviate the guilt of the consumer. The reality is that most of the plastic waste is dumped in poor countries, and/or directly into the oceans.
Use less. Use wisely. Nobody is perfect, but a little effort goes a long way.
Europe has already banned much of single-use plastic products. It’s far from perfect, but it’s getting there.
Here’s looking at you, China, India, USA, and to quite an extent, even Japan, the biggest plastic polluters of the world. Brazil should be joining the list sooner or later. There are microplastic particles (i.e. invisible to the naked eye) in the rain, snow, the seas and oceans, sea-life, wildlife, livestock, and worst of all, in our own bloodstreams. Think about that the next time one drinks water or any beverage from a plastic bottle.
Edit: POST-SCRIPTVM: CVM GRANO SALIS, i.e. with a grain of salt, since it’s the New York Post of the Murdoch empire, but here’s something of interest:

For Earth’s sake, get your soda (preferably free from sugar and/or HFCS — high fructose corn syrup) in cans, which are infinitely recyclable. And no more than two drinks per day, max. Too much aspartame, much like too much sugar or HFCS, is not particularly good for one’s health.
All things in moderation: Mêden Āgan («μηδὲν ἄγαν») — "Nothing in excess”. (The second Ancient Greek maxim engraved on the Temple of Apollon at Delphi < Delphoi.)
"Lagom är bäst.” — Swedish proverb.
#deep ecology#dypøkologi#écologie profonde#stop drowning the world in plastic#say no to plastic as much as possible#petrol oil companies are ruthlessly cunning#never trust a petrol oil company — the “big petrol” giants#people trust petrol companies more than medical pharmaceutical companies — that’s un-bloody-believable

Sunken Ships

Don’t tell me stories of the sunken ships, It’s too much for me to take in; […] But will you tell me how you deal with a broken heart? I don’t know, you say and go.

Mercury by Artus Quellinus the Elder

This being a quick post, for more information, please check out the basics at Google Arts & Culture via the following link:
There is much to be interpreted here from this artistic agalma*, but as stated before, it’s a quick post.
*Agalma : ἄγαλμα, τό, image, statue (noun) … statue in honour of a god, e.g. τὸ τοῦ Διὸς ἄγαλμα (the statue of Zeus) — via LSJ.
Nota bene: The posted image is from the internet, and not from the website of the Royal Palace Amsterdam. All rights belong to their respective owners. Although, the sculptor being dead for centuries means that the statue itself cannot be under any copyright. It only belongs to the Royal Palace Amsterdam, the upkeep for which is covered by the Dutch (and possibly EU) taxpayers and the Dutch national debt, just to be clear — Mercury is the god of money (and by extension, the economy), after all. The Dutch Royals, like most others, are state figureheads, not administrative heads of state. And this statement is in orange because it is the Dutch national color, due to the Netherlands’ associations with William of Orange.

Liberal and Glad For It

Being liberal is just fine, without enforced ideology. Just freedom of the mind and will, without constant navel-gazing, and at the same time, respecting nature, life, and humanity.
It would appear that “woke” has taken on an ideological route, which is disconcerting to quite an extent. It’s a good thing that it's mainly an American phenomena, and mainstream Europeans are frankly not interested. As a de facto European, I happen to be one of them.
Some French commentators have made a point that the election (and reëlection after a hiatus) of the actual “hocus-potus gone wrong” is due to a mass rejection of woke ideology… who knows? That which I know is that enforced ideology is never a good thing. It usually gets replaced by another.

A Personal Note on Tumblr Blogs
For the sake of my sanity, I am unfollowing nearly all blogs that primarily publish and/or reblog US political drama. There has to be a limit to this insanity.😒
I'm not even in that country, and do not intend to be so anymore, even if I was preselected for the Green Card visa. Given the actual chaotic status due to a madman at the helm, I suppose that I have seen more than my fair share of this travesty of democracy. I mean, didn't the Americans learn anything from 2016 to 2020? Are they that oblivious to reality? 🙄
Wishing the US-Americans the best for their future. Hopefully, there will be a light at the end of the tunnel (and a skeptic would say, "usually that of an oncoming train!") I just pictured Wile E. Coyote in my mind's eye. 🐺😅

A Vast Old Religion — D.H. Lawrence
“It was a vast old religion, greater than anything we know: more starkly and nakedly religious. There is no God, no conception of a god. All is god. But it is not the pantheism we are accustomed to, which expresses itself as "God is everywhere, God is everything." In the oldest religion, everything was alive, not supernaturally but naturally alive. There were only deeper and deeper streams of life, vibrations of life more and more vast. So rocks were alive, but a mountain had a deeper, vaster life than a rock, and it was much harder for a man to bring his spirit, or his energy, into contact with the life of a mountain, and so draw strength from the mountain, as from a great standing well of life, than it was to come into contact with the rock. And he had to put forth a great religious effort. For the whole life-effort of man was to get his life into direct contact with the elemental life of the cosmos, mountain-life, cloud-life, thunder-life, air-life, earth-life, sun-life. To come into the immediate felt contact, and so derive energy, power, and a dark sort of joy. This effort into sheer naked contact, without an intermediary or mediator, is the root meaning of religion...”

If only…

The ferocious evangelical churches (mostly US-based) that were hell-bent in trying to convert me since my teenage years predicted that such an “event” would take place in the Year 2000. What the hell happened?
Twenty-five years later, and the religious nuts are getting crazier and crazier. What happened to the “deus ex machina” that was supposed to take them away, and leave the rest of us in real peace and freedom?
It could be that it was the “deus ex machina” that had the Y2K bug, after all. Or an asteroid got in the way of the “father-ship” like the iceberg did for the Titanic. Who knows?
One thing is for certain: It is practically impossible to convert me into following any political or religious ideologies.
Credits and kudos to the cartoon creator-s.

Yogic Wisdom for Moderates
“Be happy for those who are happy, be compassionate toward those who are unhappy, be delighted for those who are virtuous, and be indifferent toward the wicked.”
~ Patāñjali, The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, via Josh Kramer Yoga on Instagram.
N.B. This statement applies at a personal level, so as to keep one’s mind at peace. This should not be taken at a state level with applicable laws and legislations, if they still exist (here’s looking at you, U.S.A!). A state cannot exist as an ochlocracy, that is the essence of human civilization. Even in the so-called “primitive” tribes (here’s using 19th century colonial-style positivist language), there are observable rules and regulations to which everyone adheres. In not doing so, the risks involve getting exiled or shunned for good, if not eaten, thrown into a volcano, or fed to the sharks (in three simplistic examples).
