Week 12-
In the last section talk about how traditionalism in animation has become the obsolete production method when compared to computer animation. Look to ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’ as an example (combing animation methods, 2D & 3D)

Week 10- Essay Development (continued)
Following the social section of my essay, I think it’d be most appropriate to continue under the route of homophobia in the political section. Here I should look towards regulations against same sex  love in the 1950’s as a starting point as to link to the time of Disney’s first recorded ‘queer’ villain, Captain Hook.

Week 9- USW Image Referencing
Image referencing requires the use of ‘figures’ in tandem with the picture and its description. This is necessary for the purpose of the essay as it dictates what image is under discussion and where. The PowerPoint gives the following citation “Fig 1: Forks break (cowanrider728, 2007)” as a sample of what to include with the coinciding image.

Week 8- USW Harvard Referencing
This session was dedicated to Harvard Referencing, an element I have used in the past, though not to this extent. When considering Harvard Referencing, it is essential that I cite images/information in text as well as in my bibliography. This is something I’ve mistakenly avoided thus far and therefore should correct as soon as possible. Further, I mustn’t follow the tendency to blindly place links as references in my bibliography section as that’d be marked down as blatant plagiarism.
As suggested in the PowerPoint, It’s best to avoid quotations if possible, instead paraphrasing the source, not forgetting to cite it as the author and date of publication as per “(Lester, 2010)”.

Week 7- Field Trip: London – V&A, Covent Garden, Natural History Museum
Our trip to London was tiring to say the least. Beginning the day at the V&A, my group and I decided to explore the contents of the building as a whole over viewing the videogame exhibit.  This included the cultural sections, mainly within Christian and Asian, given my fascination of Japanese culture. I can’t say the trip proved useful in answering my personal analysis however, as animation, particularly Children’s animation, had no exhibit in the given area.  Following the V&A, we ventured to the Natural History Museum, which wasn’t the best of experiences sadly, due to the venue being immensely overcrowded.  Had we more time or at the very least used our time more wisely, I would’ve liked to visit the Covent Garden exhibit. Though upon arrival via the underground train station, time restrictions called for a swift return to the bus.

Week 6- Tutorials and Essay Development
Not a substantial development but my tutorial with Sarah has given me a definitive question to undertake in my essay. In the continuing weeks I will work towards presenting ‘A Historical analysis of the development of social injustice in animation’. Currently I’m researching into Homophobia within Disney, as I did with Racism in my critical analysis, and I’m finding that the company is riddled with examples of stereotyping among the LGBTQ community. Sarah suggested that I look at the children’s series ‘Tom & Jerry’ as a possible topic, which again would fall under Racism but at least for the time being I’m hoping to focus on subliminal Homophobic messaging in line with Disney in a historical setting.

Week 5- Critical Analysis (continued)
Upon receiving the brief for the 2500 word essay I was stuck between two ideas, both coming under ‘Moving image’ out of the given selections. Firstly I thought of approaching it in the sense of animation, being the obvious link to moving image, but then I considered my fascination for comic book art which could prove dense enough as an area of study when comparing a classic comic book style to comics today. In spite of that, in the last task (the critical analysis) I delved into animation but within the context of social injustice in history. This felt much more in tune with the briefs demands and it’s not a topic I’m completely familiar with so I would be learning more myself than I would while studying comics.
If I’m to research effectively, I must make full use of the internet as my main source of exploration. While I’m not fully aware of examples of indecency in animation at this point, I fully plan explore further into the change that has occurred with the representation of social minorities in more recent animations.

Week 3- Field Trip: Special Collection Archives, Cardiff University
This session saw us taking a trip to the Special Collection Archives of Cardiff University. I was unsure of the benefit of the trip in line with communication studies, though I was in all honestly fascinated with the selection on show.  Of the pictures I took, what stuck with me the most, evidently, was the anatomical books of Juan Valverde ‘Anatome Corporis Humani’ (1607). I was inspired by the eerie nature of his studies and I plan to incorporate similar visuals in my horror inspired drawings outside of our given projects.
