literary analysis is honestly way cooler and more interesting, as like a foundational bone of what makes stories interesting and effective than english class ever made it out to be (and i *liked* english class)
#rj talks#like just more connecting the 'plot' part of a book to its 'themes' and 'devices' parts and how it works and creates those parts#like if you have a story of a boy surviving in the woods it very naturally becomes a coming of age story and says things about youths#as you raise and answer questions about like growing self-sufficient and how you represent the boy#and how those choices can be intentional or not - either author biases like it being a boy#or more 'making it up' type ways where youre asking if a text supports an idea
