no but diana gabaldon had no business writing john and percy such a beautifully complex and tragic story in brotherhood of the blade if she was going to throw all their potential in the trash like she did, i mean did she expect me to read “the seagulls on the tiber call all night, and call your name” and just move on with my life like it’s nothing??? and accept whatever the hell she was trying to do in bees??

[Bees Spoilers, Chapter 15]
Excuse me but . . . are we being set up for a Fanny x Willie situation?

As much as Bees disappointed me in many ways, I admit there were several little nuggets that I did truly enjoy.
There's this really sweet moment where William is dressed in his uniform and sits down to breakfast with John and Hal. Things are still a bit tense between John and William, but then John just, without saying anything, rebraids William's hair for him. It's such a short passage, only a few sentences, but the love and tenderness in it could fill hundreds of pages.
It breaks my heart in just the best way possible because it's undeniable how much John loves William, and it has nothing at all to do with Jamie. It's one of those moments where you can't doubt that Jamie may be William's father, but John is his dad.
And yeah, you know, given the opportunity, I've no doubt that John would have jumped at the chance to raise William with Jamie. Similarly, John would have given anything for William and Jamie to be able to be more to each other than they are, and this exists apart from and above John's love for and attraction to Jamie.
But even if Jamie and William had (or do later) the chance to be more of a fixture in each other's lives, Jamie will never be to William what John is. And as much as that makes me sad for Jamie, it makes me happy for John, because there is finally someone to put John first, who John won't ever truly drive away.
As much as John seems to think he doesn't deserve good things (or as willing as he is to sacrifice his own happiness for others)... He still has this beautiful little family that he found one day, all because he was kind to the Dunsaneys when their son died, a million years ago.

Shoutout to everyone in this scene, but especially the fishwife. A true team effort, 100/10.
