my step mom was asking me more questions about the nonbinary thing and after talking to me for a bit, she said "oh, so youre a rosé! not a chardonnay transitioning to a merlot, just your own unique type" which was such a middle aged white woman way to frame it, but i cannot lie gang. it did make me want to cry

The next generation shouldn’t have to live in a world with fewer reproductive, civil, LGBTQ and environmental rights.
Digital art depicting a mother and daughter hugging. The daughter is holding a rose with her eyes closed. The mom is wearing a tan dress with the text, ‘The next generation shouldn’t have fewer rights than we did.’

Enjoy this artwork I made, titled “Mutiny in Candlelight.”
I got really inspired by the scene where the crew of the Revenge sat in candlelight to vote for a mutiny against Izzy Hands. The lighting in this scene reminded me of the Dutch painters who played with shading and light to show you more detail in the shadows the longer you stared at the artwork.
It felt like a metaphor for the crew of the Revenge as a whole, we only really get more depth the longer we spend time with them in the candlelight the show holds up to marginalized individuals, so often in the media’s shadows.

This episode also highlights a very relatable fantasy that some queer people (like me) might want in the midst of a fucked up government/apocalypse. To hide away in our own little safe paradise and just be happy. And this episode also showed how Bill was happy to just keep others at bay out of fear of that bubble bursting. Then Frank comes along, and he realizes he can be happy, even though it scares him. Then Frank shows him that there are still some good people out there, people who won’t hurt them, who will respect them and be in good company. It’s such a hopeful episode on so many levels.
I am on Youtube, watching middle-aged straight men bawl their eyes out watching episode 3 of The Last Of Us. I am seeing them write huge essays on Reddit about how this episode changed their entire worldview. I am not remotely exaggerating when I say this episode of television deserves to be memorialized as an important part of LGBTQ+ history, because it moved the dial in a way a thousand standard liberal band-aid measures could not. This episode of TV is why fascists destroy art.
They better make it rain Emmy's on this show. I may be a pencil with hair, but I'm a feral pencil with hair. The thought of this show, this episode specifically, not getting an Emmy, is already actively pissing me off.
