I laughed and smiled so much while reading this book! The whole time it felt like I was in on a some secret story, as if someone was gossiping to me. It was freaking amazing. So if your looking for something light hearted I’d defiantly pick up this gem.

TITLE: Runaways CHAPTER NO./ONE SHOT: Chapter 1 AUTHOR: SassyShoulderAngel319 ORIGINAL IMAGINE: Imagine around the turn of the twentieth century, Loki gets sick of being a Prince of Asgard for a while and runs away to New York City, where he falls in with a ragtag group of newsies, including you. RATING: PG/K+ NOTES/WARNINGS: No warnings, except maybe read the dialogue out loud if you have a hard time understanding it. This takes place in September of 1899, so, yeah. I don’t think I ever explicitly state that anywhere in the story but bear it in mind. (I love Newsies so this story has been such a blast to write!) (There’s a prologue before this, by the way!)

Loki wandered the city until around lunchtime when he came up on a group of kids arguing. Thriving on chaos and curious as to what was happening, he slowly approached.

The kids ranged from around ten to fifteen or so. Every one of them had dirt smudged on their faces and wore the same kind of cap with a short brim and cloth stretched all the way over the top. The colors and patterns varied, but they were mostly the same style. Most of the kids were raggedy, with tears in their clothing and scuffs all over their shoes. Many of them had canvas bags slung across their bodies.

Summary: You’re an unregistered vampire trying your hardest to save up enough to go to school by working long hours and giving up meals. Unfortunately, the local university refuses to enroll starving vampires like yourself because they’re seen as threats. Desperate to get in, you take up Jeon Jungkook’s shady offer to help.

You wiped the sweat from your brow and leaned next to the front door of the laundromat. The most recent delivery run you made really tuckered you out more than you could afford. You only had one more whole blood bag left in your fridge and you were already rationing the current one strictly until your next paycheck. Only a few more days until payday, you reminded yourself as you went inside to pick up the final delivery for the day.

When you walked in, you saw your boss talking to another vamp you had never seen before. Your boss turned his head and looked sheepish, but you couldn’t figure out why.

“What’s going on,” you smiled to disarm the tension in the room. You could smell your boss’ B.O. as his pulse sped up.

“Y/N, this is Jenni. Do you know each other?”

“Of course not,” Jenni said at the same time you sighed, “Not every vamp knows every other vamp.” The disgust in Jenni’s tone made you take a moment to look her over. While she wasn’t dressed in high couture, she was definitely dressed nicer than you. It was clear she was a registered vamp, just like it was clear you weren’t. Suddenly you were reminded of how dingy and ill-fitting your clothes were.

“Well,” your boss cleared his throat awkwardly, “Jenni is applying for a position here.”

“I thought we didn’t have any vacancies right now,” you furrowed your brows.

“Yes, there are,” Jenni piped in, “The front desk and delivery driver position is open”. Your mouth fell open before you could pull yourself together.

“What? That’s my job. There aren’t any vacancies. Tell her, sir.”

The Columbia Correctional Institution (CCI) is a maximum security state prison for men, located in Portage, Columbia County Wisconsin. Opened in 1986, CCI houses approximately 830 inmates in twelve housing units designed after army barracks. The SMU (segregation unit) at CCI houses the most violent and unstable inmates in the Wisconsin prison system. Despite expansions to housing in the 90’s, the facility continues to be chronically overpopulated, and has struggled with significant staff shortages for decades, with a reported 19% job vacancy rate. The staff shortage is so severe, it has been reported that the guard towers surrounding the facility are not manned overnight. CCI has a long and troubling history of inmate assaults, suicides and murders.

In 1994, inmates Jesse Anderson and Jeffrey Dahmer were beaten to death at CCI by Christopher Scarver, a fellow inmate already serving life for murder. The three men were assigned to work detail in the prison gymnasium, which included cleaning toilets. After being left unsupervised, Scarver retrieved a 20 inch metal bar from the weight room and brutally attacked them with it. Scarver claimed he despised Dahmer because he fashioned severed limbs out of his food in the prison cafeteria and drizzled packets of ketchup as blood. (This claim is not verified.) “It was unnerving.” Scarver received two additional life sentences for the murders.
