When I was a kid I used to make pipecleaner people and animals and I came up with an idea that I could make a business selling them and little decorations. I mean I was like 8 so I never did it but still, I was obsessed with the idea of making a website to sell them online.
And then for my birthday my mom made like a dozen pipecleaner-and-pompom stuffed animals and handed them out to kids at my birthday party and it was a hit and kids fought over the poodles.
anyways what im saying is i was really ahead of the curve trend as a kid because now there are companies selling pipecleaners (albeit the big thick ones) and just telling you to make animals out of them.

*gasp* a child
shes just a wee kid. giving big Dora the Explorer energy.
shes also giving big Fisher Price Little People Energy:

but hopefully I made her unique enough.
The funny thing to me is, if Littlest Pet Shop had gone down a more conventional route when adding humans to their toyline, eg basing the humans proportions off the LPS, they could have hit it out of the park because LOL dolls would come along a few years later and make bank for like... ten years. Especially the later pets like below right who have super circley eyes and colorful schemes.
(despite being such a fan of LPS, im a hater of LOL dolls so dont @ me about this looking like an LOL doll pleeeeeeease)
I accidentally spent way longer on this than I meant to so... I'm sharing it here. A little design concept for human Littlest Pet Shop characters if Blythe hadn't come into the picture.
The concept is pretty similar in size/structure to some modern dolls like Yummiland or LOL babies (or heck, even Bratz Babyz) but with a more kid-ish, gender neutral aesthetic and sculpted clothes. The LPS line has captured the girl market, but I think part of the appeal of many animal toys is you can gender and name them however you want.
These are roughly the same size as the original LPS, so their articulation is limited to bobbleheadedness and possibly a twist torso. I don't think the heads/bodies being swapped should be part of playing, because they'd be too easy to lose.
Fabric accessories can be swapped with the pets. The emphasis here is that these aren't fashion dolls, they're just mini dolls. No clothes swapping needed. I feel like that is way more cohesive with the kind of line LPS originally was.
The relaunch versions eventually did go with sculpted plastic clothes, but at this point the line is the result of a weird game of telephone with the original Blythe <3 LPS dolls where they made the LPS look more like the TV Show characters who are supposed to look like the blythe dolls and on and on.
And while I think the minifigures look fine, I don't think they really match the line as a whole. They're... literally just the character from the show, like 15 times. There were only a handful of other characters even produced. So... not a lot of play potential unless you're just acting out the show and also you have 15 Blythes.
also the above animal is supposed to be a deer and like... come on if you're going to make every animal roughly the same size and then the humans 4x as tall they aren't going to be recognizable. what is this, a Duiker?!
#my art#doll designs#littlest pet shop#human lps#i dont like their perfectly circle eyes or open mouth gimmick or rubber clothes#and the fact so many have loose glitter is awful#rubber clothes should have died with polly pocket

Blythe pet concepts -> 3D model
I knew that trying to design blythe-like pets would be easier to visualize in 3D, and out of them I prefer the afghan dog concept.
Blythe has such a flat face with a round head its tempting to copy that to a pet, but I felt like it needed something... else. Sweetie pups-style hair is perfect for the afghan dog. I also like it because a lot of people find the partially-haired animal toys uncanny, which is kind of perfect for blythe. The dog needs to be just uncanny enough to put off 85% of people but have a soft and pleasing aesthetic to the rest.
The only thing is, its body may be too big in comparison to its body than Blythe's. But any smaller of a body and it'll tip right over so I dunno.

Youtuber Brandon Greer did a video where he talks about early pokemon sprites and makes his own based off the pokemon artstyle and a piece of art by Ken Sugimori:
So obviously I paused in the middle of the video and went to make my own version. The left version is my first try, the second includes some adjustments I made after watching the rest of the video and seeing his sprite and some of the bits he took from the pokemon sprites.
Anyways, here's my final attempt after I lined it up next to some official pokemon sprites and tried to more closely match their style. It's still not perfect but it was a fun little excercise.

This is like… furbette eyes draft 1. Theyre a little wonk so ill probably do some repainting but im not sure bow much. I might remove the eyeshine and just put lots of gloss.
I ended up texturing the faceplate, just for the heck of it, just following my train of thought and stuff. The hair and face plate are not permanently attached.
