I came down with a cold the last few days, so I’ve been stuck in bed…but! It gave me some time to doodle my favorite vampire! I drew it like a little sticker sheet, I think it turned out pretty cute, hope you guys like it. (＾▽＾)

HELLFIRE has been a long journey, but thank you all for your support throughout the development of this project! As you can see, Ryo won the poll  over on twitter. It was really fun drawing him, so I hope you all like this quick  bonus~

UPDATE #07 ☛ 7/19/18

Alright, its finally update time again!!

So for this week, the biggest update has to do with the revamped sprites! As you can see, I’ve finished the lineart and base for Sitri! My plan is to finish all the sprites to this level, so that we have something to use as placeholders in the game while we continue putting the chapters in, and then finish them up when we’re a little farther along. 

Oddly enough, when I first created Hellfire, Sitri was a character I personally wasn’t very fond of, but felt he was necessary for the plot. However, I must say, as I’ve written the story and really developed his character, I’ve come to love  this cheeky brat haha. So I hope you guys will come to love him too when the game is released. ♡

If you asked anyone working or living at the castle, they would tell you that Sitri has an outgoing and at times flamboyant personality, however, Sitri is far more intellectual and reserved than his actions might suggest. In his spare time, Sitri curates the castle’s library and maintains the archives. He particularly enjoys poetry and abstract literature written by humans.

Secondly, you can see the sketch I’m working on next for Ryo’s sprites. My hope is that I can finish this one up and share it with you guys next week!

And lastly, I’d like to briefly mention that I am well into working on the writing for the second chapter! Still a ways to go, but hopefully next week I can share some excepts, as well as some new screenshots from the game.

UPDATE #06 ☛ 7/13/18

Hey guys! Sorry this is really only going to be a partial update, but I just wanted to quickly tell you guys that I’m finally home from traveling and things are getting back to normal! I will officially resume the weekly updates for Hellfire starting next week. See you then! ♡

Hellooo, I really like what I'm seeing so far for your game, and want to know a bit about your writing! Are you writing the story as a screenplay? And if so, how do you go about formatting the branching choices? I have some ideas myself but haven't been able to figure out a proper way to format the story!

Hi there! I’m so sorry this has gone so long without a response. ;A;

But anyways, thank you so much, I’m glad you like the game so far! And to answer simply, yes, I write the script for Hellfire in a screenwriting format. I know a lot of developers write as they program with visual novels, but for me, I find I get the best results creatively if I write it as an actual script first. Also,  considering that Hellfire has a full voice cast, this method works great for me and actually saves some time later on. ^_^ That said, as you mentioned, I have to adapt a screen writing format to the branching storylines contained within visual novels, and I’d be more than happy to show you guys how I personally handle this.

As an example, here’s an excerpt from the prologue’s script. As you can see, its pretty organized, and its detailed enough that when changing it into actual code for renpy, its pretty clear how the choice affects the parameters. Text within parenthesis will be actually seen in the game, while text in all caps merely refers to visual cues. The way I wrote Hellfire, the first few chapters are broken up into two separate sides, and in each, the heroine is pursuing a different goal. That said, a lot of the main scenes are fairly similar, so what I did for these chapters is set up two documents, highlighting any text that very between the two sides. This way the story is still clear and easy to read for the voice actors, but also intelligible when putting in as code.
