Note
This might be a sort of silly question, but I just want to make sure i understand everything ok
Can folk apply to submit panel stuff & apply as an artist?
Additionally, ive never personally had the opportunity to attend othercon, what sort of duties does an artist have? (If any)
Or to paraphrase: what does an artist do for othercon?
You can absolutely apply to both! Just know your own limits and try to avoid overbooking yourself.
As for what artists do: by default, you get a spot on the website's artist directory for that year and a forum thread in the Discord server (what we call "artist tables"). You can decorate your thread however you want, usually it's used to hold commission/sale info. There's also the website's gallery, where you can submit up to 5 art pieces for display.
If you're interested in streaming, you can also request a time slot(s) for that in your application.

About staff applications
Sometimes jobs need more advanced notice before requesting time off, so the new date for volunteer staff applications opening is May 1st!
The previous post mentioning staff applications has also been edited to reflect this.

Hi :) I'm @abyssal-werewolf just asking as anon as to not reveal my main blog lol
sooo, I wanted to finally host a panel this year and was wondering if pre-recorded panels are accepted just like in the past years? and if so, how would I submit that? and even further, can I ask to not put it on Youtube (I am pretty paranoid about irl folk finding me online, even if it's just my voice 🫠)? :)
Pre-recorded panels are accepted! Although we'll have to look into how to host a pre-recorded panel without it being on YouTube. Traditionally, pre-recorded panels use YouTube's "premier" feature to automatically play it live at a specified time. Streaming video directly to Discord (via scrensharing) has the risk of hitting a member cap where new people tuning in can't see anything. This was a year ago though, Discord might've made some changes with that, we're not sure yet. We'll look into that and get back to you if we can (or you can just reach back out in a couple weeks).
Also, if a panel is requested to not be put up on YouTube then we won't officially put it up. However, it's worth remembering that we can't fully control if someone records it personally and uploads it to their own channel for keeps. So we won't post it, but we can't guarantee anyone viewing at the time won't post it

Othercon 2025 artist and panelist submission forms!
Deadline: June 1st, 2025
Information Q&A
Q: When is Othercon? A: Othercon always takes place on the 2nd weekend of August, which means that this year the dates are August 8th - 10th (Eastern US timezone) Q: Will there be movie/episode screenings on the schedule this year? A: Movies are handled by the panelists as of 2024, so for movies/episodes to be available it has to be submitted as a panel by someone willing to stream it.
Q: Where are the staff applications? A: For more accurate availability guesses, volunteer staff applications will open closer to the con on May 1st.
Q: How will I know if my panel(s) got accepted? A: Confirmations will be sent out sometime in mid-to-late June after applications close.

Will there be a 2025 Othercon? I missed it these past few years due to personal reasons, but I want to try again this year!
This was up in the air for a while since I wasn't sure if there would be one this year. I've ultimately decided there will be, with some forms opening up later today (a separate post will be made for that).

Last chance to register for Othercon 2024!
If you're interested in attending and haven't registered yet, now is your chance! The form will officially close at 10pm EST (today, 8/8/2024).
Invites are being sent out in two waves this year. Wave 1 already got theirs, but the 2nd wave will get their invites after registration officially closes. If you haven't gotten an email yet, then there is a high chance you are in wave 2. You are free to send in your registration again if you're afraid of being left out though.
Also as a reminder, even if you made an account on othercon.org previously, the only way to get an invite for this year is to fill out the above form! This is due to server issues. Hopefully next year it can be synced up again

I got a friend to help me, but I wanted to double-check about the discord ID portion of the form: my discord profile (when viewed by another person) says "Originally known as [name]#[4 digit number]" -- is this the ID meant on the form?
It's not, no. The registration form links the following guide on how to properly find it:

With how registration was through a Google doc, how is the attendance link going to be received and should permissions for 18+ panels still be effective if we've attended previously?
The invite link will be one sent out to everyone through email this time, and 18+ perms are still effective if you've already gotten it!
