It's fair to say, you can see why they named it that way. Most nebula's that have a name, depend on a little or a lot of pareidolia, our brains insatiable desire to turn everything into something we see in our every day life. Had telescopes been created before Maps, this shape would have meant absolutely nothing to anybody.
