This is a relatively old post but it's amazing and me laugh so much! I love the "An entire group of people have crushes on Oscar" 😂 also the Fersen one is the best. Which one is your favorite?
Hi yes I made a Rose of Versailles bingo, mostly because every time I joke that Fersen shows up just when you least expect him to, he winds up… actually showing up again

Calling All Rose of Versailles Fans!!
Hello my fellow Rose of Versailles fans! For the longest time, I have felt so alone in this fandom but ever since I joined Tumblr recently, I realized that there are a lot more fans of RoV that are keeping it alive and going <3
It seems that the fandom is scattered all over the place: on fanfic sites, fanart sites, Tumblr, Instagram, forums in specific languages.
My hope is to have some sort of RoV community to exchange ideas, fanfic, fanart and our passion for Oscar and Ikeda-Sensei's marvelous other works, which will hopefully include fans in all languages (because Google translate makes including people much easier!)
I would really love to connect with all of you out there, so hit me up with a message or comment on this blogpost. What made you love RoV? What is/are your favorite parts about the manga/anime? How long have you been a fan? Would you like to connect with other RoV fans?
It would be nice to come together and celebrate together 50 amazing years of the Rose of Versailles!

Anyone else fall in love with Victor-Clement de Girodelle?
I’ve been falling in love with Victor from the Rose of Versailles recently. Maybe now that I am getting older, I can appreciate his character more and look at him as less of a “villainous rival” to Andre but as an actual viable option for Oscar. I wanted to start exploring a bit more of his character and POV through this recent one-shot fanfic (https://archiveofourown.org/works/41691915)
Anyone else feel the same about Victor?
PS: I don’t often like to promote my fanfics, but FFN has been down for DAYS and my story has slipped into an abyss, never to be seen, so I wanted to give it some visibility and communicate with readers!

Happy Valentine's Day! 💜🌹
This very cute artwork from うたかた on Pixiv depicting a sexy Oscar in a red dress (because who doesn't like to see Oscar all dressed up)) inspired my 2022 Valentine's Day fanfic. It's a modern day AU short story of Oscar's first date 🥰 (warning: lots of fluff and cheesiness🥰)

Fersen and Oscar
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I have always found it shallow and somewhat sexist when Fersen rejects Oscar based on her appearance. In the manga, he tells her that things might have been different between them “had he known she was a woman the first time he saw her”. I found that a mean thing to say to Oscar, given that Fersen obviously knew how much Oscar’s career mattered to her. It also speaks something about his own shallowness, which one can attribute to the stuffy pretentious society they were in. Oscar is beautiful, capable, strong, confident, noble at heart and a very kind individual. It always bothered me that Fersen couldn’t see that just because she never wore a dress. I believe that Oscar came to the same conclusion in the end and was able to finally see that Fersen wasn’t really the man she thought: he was as shallow as the rest of them, which is why she was able to let go of her love for him and subsequently leave Versailles. Perhaps she finally realized that no matter how much power her position had given her, no one really saw her as the person she wanted to be seen as. But who was the person she wanted to be seen as? And who was she, really? In pursuit of these questions that she had begun asking herself, Oscar’s first instinct was to decide to live her life as a man. After all, if everyone (aka Fersen) sees her as a man and nothing else, then so be it. Of course, we all know the disastrous consequences this decision had on her relationship with Andre. I think this was a huge turning point for her character in the manga/anime and could be seen as a symbolism for the revolution itself. A small realization that challenges the status quo can snowball and have massive repercussions that can drastically change the course of events in a violent way (i.e. Andre’s violent outburst in this case). So, in the end, Fersen’s rejection could be seen as the beginning of Oscar’s awakening. The beginning of her liberation.
In Chapter 5 of my fanfic Cinderella Man (FF.net or AO3), I wanted to follow in that theme as well and make Fersen a catalyst to her awakening. Furthermore, I wanted to give him a different perspective on Oscar that could redeem him. What if Fersen paused to contemplate Oscar for a bit? What would she represent to him? In the end, I could not make Fersen fall in love with her but I wanted him to experience something towards her that most characters, except for Fersen, in the manga/anime have experienced towards Oscar: she was their dream. Everyone sees Oscar in the way that they want to see her. She embodies many characters’ hopes, dreams and fantasies (more on this topic in-depth later). For Fersen, I thought she would embody a partner who was equal to him, accessible, exciting and with whom he could share his adventures.
As for Oscar, I always thought her love for Fersen was very juvenile. Unlike her attraction to other men later on in life, there was never any hint of her feelings towards Fersen to be sexual in nature. Her obsession with him is almost akin to a modern day’s obsession with an idol or a pop star or celebrity: an unattainable dream. The problem was that she stayed in that dream for far too long. So, of course, as with other fanfics out there, I really wanted to jolt her awake. Instead of having her heart broken, I wanted her to experience Fersen in a more intimate way. What would have happened if Fersen had indeed kisses Oscar? Even though the story has a Cinderella theme to it, Fersen’s kiss would be a lot like the Prince kissing Snow White. Oscar would finally wake up and realize, “well, he’s not really the man of my dreams.” And isn’t that what we all would have wanted to scream at her through the screen or the page of the manga?!
Fersen’s wish at the end of my chapter mirrors the kind of thing I would have wanted to say to her:
Oh Oscar, if there is one thing I want for you, it is for you to free yourself. To be able to love and be loved. Run, Oscar. Leave this place while you can. Au revoir mon amie.
