O holy night, the stars are brightly shining It is the night of the dear Saviour's birth Long lay the world in sin and error pining 'til He appeared and the soul felt its worth
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn Fall on your knees, oh, hear the angel voices O night divine, O night when Christ was born

The spiritual life is the only real life; everything else is material. Our body’s material, dust borrowed from the earth. The spiritual life is our unceasing effort to become worthy of the divine breath which is within us.

Hiee!🤍 I am Anushka, and I am 19 years old. I want to start practicing Orthodox Christianity but, I don't know anything about it and don't know where to start. Then I came towards your blog, and thought I could get so guidance. Can you help me please?
is there an orthodox church nearby? getting in contact with the priest would be a great step, he can guide you better than i could
reading the orthodox way and the orthodox study bible are also fantastic starting places
the orthodox community on tumblr is really knowledgeable, there are much better blogs than mine. @religious-extremist immediately comes to mind, she's very smart and kind and she runs an orthodox bookclub on discord which might interest you
oh, and speaking of discord, orthocord, is full of recourses; prayers, lives of the saints, daily quotes from church fathers, evening prayer meetings, books, daily bible quotes, recipes and its own ai chatbot to answer all your questions, as well as having a special channel to ask actual members of the clergy
i'd appreciate if some followers of this blog would reach out to our sister and offer some wise words and/or reblog this with resources of your own or to talk about your personal experiences
god bless you on your journey, anushka! <3

understand two thoughts and fear them one says; "you are a saint" the other; "you won't be saved" both of these thoughts are from the enemy, and there is no truth in them, but think this way: i am a great sinner, but the lord is merciful, he loves people very much and he will forgive my sins - st silouan the athonite

I have the same problem I feel selfish to pray for myself, and I can only pray and ask for forgiveness.
Could you tell me more what your priest said?
of course, but i think asking for forgiveness is a great thing to pray for
he recommended short prayers, like the jesus prayer, or simple things, like "jesus, please help me" / "i can't do this alone" / "i need help"
give your burdens to god; let him carry them for you

i struggle to pray for myself, i feel selfish, but my priest recommended it
"short prayers, from the heart, are best," he said
"is it okay if i start to pray, but end up crying?"
"that's good! that's how the saints prayed. don't be afraid to cry. we're children, children of god"
"and children cry when they need things... when they need love"
"and god loves you! and god is with you"
