What is a slut…? Pause that thought, because it’s not quite what you think. ‘Slut’ originally had none of the connotations it holds today, it was just a word used to describe an untidy man or woman. And that right there is the first of so many facts that blew my mind as @amywritesxo read ‘Wordslut’ by @amanda_montell.⠀ ⠀ Read the full review over at orendamagazine.com.au 📖⠀ ⠀ Thanks to @blackincbooks for asking us to review Wordslut. — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/2ZAIqdt

"The fact that we are treating reproductive rights as they did in the early 1900s is deeply concerning," Mr Greenwich said. "In 2019 it's time we changed that." https://buff.ly/311PNqS

After dark in the central Australian desert, pillars of light pierce the black sky. You can see Alice Springs Desert Park from miles around as hundreds of people assemble to reconnect with the land. People lie in the dirt and take selfies. Kids pick up fistfuls of red sand in their palms and let it run through their fingers back to the ground, as their parents stand agape at the MacDonnell Ranges. https://buff.ly/2V6e8sJ

"Voice assistants like Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa are women rather than men. You can change this in the settings, and choose a male speaker, of course, but the fact that the technology industry has chosen a woman to, by default, be our always-on-demand, personal assistant of choice, speaks volumes about our assumptions as a society: Women are expected to carry the psychic burden of schedules, birthdays, and phone numbers; they are the more caregiving sex, they should nurture and serve. "But what many people–myself included-have missed in the gender criticism of personal assistants is that it was even binary to begin with" https://buff.ly/2ulJoIH

The aim is to help combat mental health and trauma issues in Aboriginal communities, particularly among young people. "This is for them, our families, to learn about all of these things that will help them look after themselves and keep them healthy in body and mind," the council's Nyumiti Burton said through an interpreter. https://buff.ly/2CHG4ML

"I was still stressed and still staring at a computer, television, mobile phone or some other form of technology for a huge portion of the day, and honestly, I felt that this was necessary. I worried that taking a step back from social media would mean less clients; that switching off my Facebook messenger alerts would mean my friends would get sick of my tardy replies and stop bothering to invite me places; and that having a stupidly full schedule was a badge of honour that I should wear with pride not resent." https://buff.ly/2Cerdci

"As cliche as it sounds, I adore my work and my clients and only take on projects that I resonate with on a genuine level so every project that I take on is something that I can get excited about and feel passionate about working on" VivMakes sat down with illustrator Hannah Johnson of Twinewood Studio to chat career paths, her current favourites and her creative process.
