I've been trying to draw everyday this month.
I've mostly been drawing my oc Pippa and Levi. This month so far I have made
š¦8 Pippa drawings
š11 Pippa/Levi ship drawings
šØš½āš¦±1 Levi drawing.
I had no idea I had only drawn Levi once until I counted. What can I say? I love my comfort zone and that comfort zone is drawing women.
I will try to be better!

Art Study = FAILED
So at the beginning of July I vowed to study/practice anatomy...
That fell apart oh so fast. š
This is all I did and it is basically nothing. This is the first 3 days of July. I have not studied or attempted to study since.
However, I want to get better at drawing characters. IDK why I can't just get myself to practice. It is not that hard. I have the books, resources, references, I have everything I need.
But, I don't have the discipline.
SO here is an art tip - Practice discipline if you lack it.

Webtoon Keeps Stabbing Their App
Webtoon keeps taking a bat and breaking the aethetic/composition of the app. This apps UI is now ATROCIOUS. The front page looks unbalanced and overwhelming. And this is what a comic page looks like now....
(June 29 2025).......VS......(June 27 2025)

I do not understand how you go from something compositionally and aesthetically (right) pleasing to something so unappealing (left).
What They COULD have Done.
I went into clip studio and made a little edits. The new comic profile page could look better that it does now with only 2 adjustments.

Instead of a square thumbnail, they could have stuck to the banner profile.
They should have made the Trailer section collapible. And allow users to permantently. Upon first glance, I just don't like the trailer being there.
Honeslty I need a new comic app.

What DO the people Want?
I saw this post on Twitter
- People don't really want Sci-Fi. I can only think of Star Wars and Star Trek being the sci-fi superstars in film. As for animated, Lilo & Stitch is sci-fi but it is more slice of life than sci-fi and I think that is why it works. There are not many successful animated sci-fi films that have done REALLY well. So I didn't expect Elio to do well, especially in this era of streaming.
It does make me wonder what makes sci-fi appealing to a large audience then?
- I think Elemental would have made it if the characters looked more human. People LOVE characters that look human or animals. I can't think of a movie that involves ALL nonhuman (or animal) characters that has done well.
- Soul, Luca, and Turning Red came out at a bad time. I don't know if they would have done well in theaters. I think Turning Red would have. Not so much Soul nor Luca. I think they maybe would have made their money back, but it wouldn't be a big SUCCESS.
Turning Red and Soul are good movies with importance. People needed those films. They are movies I didn't know I wanted.
Side note: Black peoples wanted a movie where theyāre human the entire timeā¦still in 2025 they havenāt gotten that from Disney/Pixar.
However, Sony with Spiderverse really did change the game. With the release of Spiderverse and now K-Pop Demon Hunters maybe they have been listening to what the people want. I notice the younger generation is working with older generation artists maybe their secret sauce at Sony as opposed to older generation execs/artists at Disney/Pixar thinking they know what younger audiences want and forcing their ideas instead of listening to their younger employees (I will never forgive them for ruining WISH)
I don't know what I want, but I know Disney/Pixar is not keeping up. I also know that I want something nostalgic but new. Additionally, I know Iām tired of tropes.
For example, I hear in Zootopia 2, there will be goats. Now my first thought is that it will be a screaming goat or the tropey goat character you see in animated media. I don't want to see that. I know that much.
I hope they don't fall into anything tropey with it. This is why theyāre falling behind. It feels like some older person wanted to add this because it made their kids laugh.
Saying that out now, these movies are made for everyone in mindāKids and adults. These animators/writers put jokes/scenes/plots for both adults and children to enjoy the film. So maybe they added that element for the kids, but do kids in 2025 find that funny? Idk
My point is Pixar is gonna need to do some good investigating to really see what the modern child, teen, and adult want before they know it in stories.
I will say - now I want villains and I want them to die (like what Disney used to do). I donāt want sequels unless they are PLANNED (like an intended duology or trilogy).

Wakfu s3 and s4 art books kind of suck (in terms of character art)
Iām going to say itā¦
I donāt think Iāll like the Season 5 Wakfu art book š
šThe season 1 was the best (if you own the whole collection. I own five volumes. I want vol 3 and vol 8).āØ
š We never got a season 2 art book. š No OVA art book/zine. 𫤠The Season 3 art book was fine. š The Season 4 art book was not valuable to meā¦honestly maybe season 3 and 4 art books are about the same š¤·āāļø HOWEVER, the season 4 art book has adult Yugo (so that's a plus!)lol
For context - I could have bought the season 3 art book. I held it in my hands. But when I looked at it, flipped through itā¦I didnāt find anything of value to me inside of it.
What is valuable to me? Character art.
They LACK concept art and sketches. They only have art from the show. Okay, the season 3 art book has SOME oncept art for the NEW characters, but I want to see the concept art for EVERYONE. I want to see the sketches! I wanted to see if they played with Amaliaās look in season 3 before deciding to for that final look. I love her OVA look more and thought thatād be her season 3 look.
Art books are supposed to inspire and inform.
As an illustrator, I didnāt get much inspiration from the season 3-4 art books for Wakfu. Theyāre good references for drawing the characters if you lack a computer, phone, tablet, library, and WiFiābut thatās about it.
A part of me wonders if they make these books because it's a decent cash grab. šš¤·āāļø
I also wonder ifā¦
they donāt have much to show (I doubt).
whoever puts these together just donāt gather good content for it.
the curator is just bad at putting together art books. Porbably having no frame of reference of TV art books currently out. If this is true they should not be putting an art book together.
Additionallyā¦The designs since season 3 have been lackluster. š¬
Dull. Uninspired. The characters are not giving the āØ..the pizzazz that the season 1 characters gave. Even Amalia season 3 kinda feels like a downgrade. It's a cute outfit that has meaning (the orange leaf) but, I feel it could have been better.
Also that pants comment in the season 3 art book felt like bullshit.
I LOVED that she was feminine. There is nothing wrong with being feminine. You can be feminine and still wear pants and shorts. It kind of feels narrowminded, but maybe I'm misreading (probably not though). I'd rather them just say that it's cheaper/easier to animate pants and leave it there.
The only good thing about the season 4 art book is adult Yugo references. Am I wrong? š¤ However, I feel like they could have pushed his design more as well.
As a matter of fact, my guess is that they pick the dull character designs because itās easier (and more importantly cheaper) to animate simple designs than complex ones.
A simple design can still be appealing though - Echo, Amalia (s3), Toxine, etc.
Among my TV art book collection wakfu season 3 & 4 books are my least favorite. Books I have barely opened since getting.
Side note: The Dofus film art book is nice too.

K-Pop Demon Hunters
I liked K-Pop Demon Hunters, it was a good movie. Fun quirky characters with believable personalities. Nice songs. Nice costuming.
I want the art book yesterday!!
However, I also have one...or two crtiques.
The singing did not match the characters BUT only for one (or two) song. If you have watched movies like Sing (Illumination), or any Disney princess film - the singing voices match the characters. IDK why but I did not feel like that for this film.
I thought the facial expressions/body language during Juni and Rumi song was NOT pushed enough. It did not look like it was THEM singing. They weren't emoting enough for me.
Maybe I am wrong. That is how I felt on the first watch. I will watch it again and maaybe redo this post.

Racists were at it again...
Back in April, according to some people on Twitter. I didn't want to look into it because I didn't want to ruin my day with negativity. But from what I saw, this is the gist of it....
So this youtube dude CoryxKenshin (I'm not a follower just a passerbyer of information) made a MANGA and sold 200,000 copies of his manga in one week!! One week!!
The racists are mad that he referred to it as a MANGA and not a comic book.
But let's be honest, they'd be mad about anything. They're racist. And don't like seeing black people doing well...or good...or better than them at ANYTHING.
What they don't know is that the Japanese term for COMICS is MANGA.
A manga is a comic and a comic is a manga. Some may be black and white and others in color but as long as they use sequential art in the form of panels to tell their story it is a comic.
I think some people outside of Japan refer to their comics as manga instead of comics because their art style is heavily influenced by Japanese artists and not Western artists. Additionally, the overall style of the comic (the way the panels showcasae the art) are probably more Japanese influenced over Western style.
WIth more Western people being influenced by manga I think you can see the Japanese style influence in western comics.
So if a comic artist from America (or anywhere in the world) where to interact with a Japanese speaking person, that person would refer to the comic artist as a manga artist. If a graphic novel is made in France and sold in Japan, the Japanese would call it a manga. Why? Because manga means comic.
Maybe they do know but don't care that the Japanese term for manga is comics. Maybe they simply want to bitch and complain about someone doing something they are too mediocre to accomplish.
I'm not here to argue or debate or whatever term you want to use to voice your own opinion because I didn't ask and I don't care. I'm just here to make a statement. And that statement is....Hahahahahaha! You're so pathetic if you're one of those who are mad about that.
Manga, Comics, Manhwa, Manhua - all the same thing same with a touch of stylistic regional flare.

After Annecy...Honestly, I want to see OTHER series from Anakama. Like NON-DOFUS and NON-WAKFU stuff.
Okayā¦hear me out. They could make others stories than Dofus or Wakfu related works. I know they make it around teir game but they could do more too.
AND THEY HAVE/ARE...
This one is in development
I know this is out and I have not seen it. I don't know if I want to
They are a studio with a unique appealing style that balances western and eastern caricatures.
If they had MONEY and GOOD stories/scripts/outlines they could become a GREAT animation studio.

Annecy & Ankama
I am at the ANNECY ANIMATION FILM FESTIVAL in Annecy France.

I watched the first 10 mins of wakfu season 5, welsh & sheddar, and etc.
All i have to say is...
Wakfu - I think they showed the scrapped version that had nothing to do with the Brotherhood of Tofu. It was interesting and a nice build to the world. I think it would make for a good mini seperate series.
Welsh & Shedar - It was very anime styled. Personally, I like the original Ankama art style (xaxaxa style). It sticks out when put next to modern Japanese anime, but with this style, it looks the same as the others. I don't really watch anime so I have not much to say. Not a big fan of the story structure (some sequences felt dragged). For anime lovers, it could be interesting, but I will not be tuned in.
Morkishen - This looked fun. It was a comedic-action about a skull guy who wants his own dungeon. There is a iop in the series (of course). I can see this as a short (like the mickey mouse shortsāno more than 4 mins) NOT as a full series.
We also got a QnA after the showings. There are a lot of questions I wanted to ask likeā¦
According to fans online, there is a lot of inconsistency what do you have to say about that?
Wouldnāt the Sadidas be okay in the great flood since plants adapt over time?
Even without the eliacube/eliasphere would you agree that Amalia and Yugo would be a powerful couple since they both wield magic. Given that Yugo can manipulate Wakfu couldnāt he essentially even combine powers with Amalia essentially well
People say that the woman in Wakfu, Eva and Amalia arenāt written well. If Wakfu was never cancelled back in 2009-2011 would we have gotten a more developed storyline for the girls. Would we have learned more about Amalias mother and her influence. How much story was axed? And would you consider doing another manga to fill in those gaps? To better show if Eva even wanted a family, to better show the romantics of yumalia, to give us more papa Ruel.
However, instead I asked,
With the budget, is there plans for a new opening sequence given that an new opening theme has been produced?
The answer to that is
Yes, there will be two introductions. That is according to the person who translated for me (since I donāt understand French either).
I was nervous, and panicked okay. Maybe someone can ask that last one if it hasnāt already been answered (which Iām sure it has).
I got to speak with the Japanese team and they were cool! I wish I got her IG. I did get their signature so when I draw something over it, I'll post it on Twitter.
If the Catsuka dude was there, he probably got all the details. So hopefully he was there and will spill the deets but I think he was elsewhere.

I think this will be my last festival/convention/expo. I am no longer into them like I was 6 years ago. It was cool getting to see Ankama up close. I filled my inner nerdy-teen-girls dream as much as I could. I can close this chapter of my life.
The next time I go to one of these, I will have to be invited.

I bought these back in October. I will finally read them next month now that I my contract is over for the time period.
I want more comics with female leads that are black! More so, I want josei graphic novels with black female leads. However, the US comic industry does not cater to adult women over 18.
I will discuss more of this in a video. I was recording it but I had to put it on the back burner for now.

Free Comic Book Day
Itās free comic book day in the USA.
But I did not see any free comic book that I wanted. Plus no one I follow was talking about it. No wonder this years line up felt soā¦dry.
Since the line up was not my taste, I purchased some books.
And because I criticised critiqued the reboot W.I.T.C.H. book new character design, I went and bought the og book.

I used to own a W.I.T.C.H. book as a kid. It was not a graphic novel it was a hybrid. The first few pages was comic then the rest was novel.
Now that I am an adult making money, I shall use said money to begin collecting these books! āŗļø Iāll get volume 1 soon.

W.I.T.C.H Reboot Character Design Changes are Kind of BIASED...
So I discovered the reboot of W.I.T.C.H two years ago (or last year) and the MOMENT I saw Taranee, I MARKED IT AS NFM (Not for me). Taranee went from this shy quirky cute artsy vibrant sporty nerd to what looks like an emo adjacent dull sporty nerd.
2005 Taranee š
2023 Taranee š
I HATED THIS CHANGE.
I hated this because the artist made her buff. And TO ME, it felt like pushing this narrative of the unfeminine black women. I thought, they could have given muscles to ANY of the other girls- Will, Cornelia, or Hay Lin..but why Taranee? The TOUGH STRONG athletic black girl is already a sterotype, why lean into it? THIS was the reason why I stopped looking into it the reboot of W.I.T.C.H back in 2023.
HOWEVER, It has been popping on my Twitter feed because of the new WINX reboot. And seeing these other changes...I'm glad I dropped it before I even picked it up.
The moment I saw Taranee I did not want to know anymore about this reboot. I also felt like they gave her this design to make her a lesbian. Sheād be the butch while someone else (probably white) will be the femme. I hope the girlfriend is Black and girly if they do go that route. But, if there were multiple black girls I would not be as critical because it gives an opportunity to show variety in interests and personality. However there is only one and sheās surrounded by feminine white girls. Do you understand my issue? And there is always, ALWAYS, one black girl in a group. And if the supporting cast isnāt diverse as well. It kind of creates a trope or stereotype.
I've seen others discuss this, but Black women are rarely depicted as soft and feminine in media. Even more so if they have dark skin (compared to light skin Black girls).
I wish I reached out to the company/editor/auithor or whoever back then to voice my cooncerns. But it didn't matter, because it was already out. Plus, I AM AN AUTHOIR-ILLUSTRATOR. I can draw the representation I want to see. I don't have to rely on people who are ignorant (and benefit off) of sterotypes to create a Black/POC character thats puts into a BOX.
Speaking of BOXES...lets talk about the MUSCULAR ATHLETIC BLACK WOMAN....This black woman below is actually a girl. Maybe about 11 or 12 years old....š
This is Taylor from Win or Lose the new Pixar show.
It is concept art from WIN or LOSE by Pixar. You see how the black girl compared to the other students looks MUSCULAR, ATHLETIC, and more grown. Her design did change to be thick but she is still more physically developed than her peers in the show.
This is not the media I want to see pushed to people about Black women. This is why we need Black/POC people in the room when creating Black/POC characters.
ON ANOTHER NOTE...YOU KNOW...
Now that I think about it, I don't think many heroes have brown eyes. Most of them have eyes of unnartural colors (yellow, purple) or they natural bright colored eyes - green or blue eyes.
THESE PEOPLE changed Will's (MC) eye color from BROWN to BLUE(or whatever)...
W.I.T.C.H. 2005š
W.I.T.C.H. 2025 š
I NEVER noticed that before. Maybe because I was so focused on Taranee. Honestly, as a kid I liked that she had brown eyes. I t was DEFINETELY noticable for me as a kid because I don't think there were any magical girls who did.
Brown eys are BEAUTIOFUL TOO.
I may have to give more of my OCs brown eyes. I think two of mine have them, but I'll make more.
They even changed her mom from a brown eyed-brunette (2005) to a blue-eyed blonde (2025).
White people have their own standards of beauty with blue eyed blondes being on top, but I'm not gonna get into that. We all know that it's triffling.
LASTLY - Another TROPE in Animation/Comics...
...the Asian girl/boy with colorful hair.
In the early 2000s. MANY animated shows that had an Asian character, who almost ALWAYS had colorful hair. People have pointed it out, and are tired of the trope.
Now I am wondering who on the team has these BIASES?" Who decided these changes were good? The art director/editor? The artist? The author? The colorist? Who is to blame for these UNESSECARY changes? Or maybe they are VERY unaware of these tropes and sterotypes and that we as a young society are tired of them.
I don't know if the artist did all of these changes or if the author wanted all of these changes or the art direcor/editor. However, I will say that all the changes definetely NOT FOR ME. Some people like it, some don't. To each their own.
Looking at the authors IG...It looks like they're NOT involved in this reboot. NONE OF THEM have posted about this reboot. šš¬
It makes me wonder if they like these changes or not...
Looking at the covers of 2004 and 2024...their differences in colors schemes and vibrancy is telling of the times.
What was lost and what was gained in the span of 20 years for this series?
Maybe I'm just nostalgic...IDK...
The work of Alessandro Barbucci, the artrist for the 2005 W.I.T.C.H., will forever live in my heart.
As for...Giulia Adragna (the reboot artist) good luck with this series.
CREDITS to Weirdhumanbeing on Twitter for popping up on my feed about this.
Taranee in the Japanese mangaā¦š
I got scared since in this cover she looks very very whitewashed.
it looks slightly better on the back cover in the sense that you can tell she has some color on her skin...šš¬ā¦but still not good enough.
Why can't some artist just stick to the color palette given to them?
Why do artists do this?
If you donāt want to colour dark skin people then donāt take the money to do the job that expects you to colour dark skin people.
This artist lacks skills.
Let it be known I do not see it as an excuse. I see it as a choice. š
If you choose not to learn how to colour or draw things you will always fall short.
Additionally, they made Irma a blonde on the back cover for some reasonš¤·āāļø. Sheās a brunette!!š¤¦š½āāļø
