JOB OPENING: Scholarship committee case evaluator

NOTE: POSITION IS NO LONGER FUNDED Onward, Upward, to Success, a small international charity NGO, is currently seeking an in-person case evaluator in Nairobi, Kenya. This will be a remote part-time home-based position responsible directly to our NGO international staff. Compensation is on a per-case basis, so workload will vary but should usually be under 8 hours per week. The case evaluator is an independent contractor paid by invoice, not an employee.

The case evaluator conducts regular assessments of student progress with students receiving our Education and Fitness Scholarships.  Must be proficient with a smartphone, good with young people and a strong leader.  Must be able to read and write clearly, and produce and manage photo and video records of case evaluations using a smart phone camera.

INDEPENDENT EDUCATION AND FITNESS SCHOLARSHIP

Onward, Upward to Success currently has a limited number of openings available in its education and fitness scholarship program. Applications are now being accepted, and selections will be made in the coming weeks.   This scholarship serves qualified families with a school-age students who have been affected by poverty or natural disasters and are unable to fully utilize public school resources.  It fosters independence in developing fitness and intellect through exercise, healthy diet and education.

Scholarships award a student's family 2,000 KES each week for a period of 12 weeks, as a stipend to support the student's regular education and fitness routines for a full academic quarter.

The Education and Fitness Scholarships encourage student development in both physical fitness and intellectual development.  As a condition of maintaining the scholarship, students are carefully evaluated and tested determine their level of fitness and educational achievement when the program begins. Follow-up testing and evaluation occurs regularly and will be reviewed periodically for student compliance.

Unlike our need-based grants, this scholarship program anticipates and encourages student accountability and improvement as part of the process. Throughout the program we track and report the student's progress resulting from regular physical exercise and intellectual study activities. Regular in-person and remote/online evaluations are conducted to ensure accuracy. Students' evaluation results are regularly reviewed by our central office, to ensure that financial assistance is being utilized to benefit the student, and continuing scholarships are conditional on the student's active participation and efforts. .
