Slower day with lots of walking but found a pair of gay caterpillars and tasted (safe?) acidic water.

Rex is believed to have been the dog of John E. Stow, one of the city’s longest-practicing fruit merchants until his death in 1884. For years, people have gathered sticks and fallen branches to place at the loyal dog’s resting place. Situated under a tree with plenty of sticks around, visitors often leave a stick across Rex’s paws as a tribute. Someone even left a picture of their own dog there, perhaps a beloved pet who had passed away, as if to say, “Rex, look after my little one.”

Taking into account that almost every element on earth, including the ones that make up these shells and pebbles, were created in the cosmic furnaces we call stars, I like to think of this as a self portrait of the universe. Not of any specific region of the universe, just the essence of it. Some bigger constellations, some smaller dots, just like the ones above for us to admire.

It took some billions of years for stars to form, live and die; some billions more for life to prosper on earth; and a few hundred million for this pebble to be discovered by humans. All this time was necessary for the universe to create art that reflects itself.
