A row of black cars stopped right in front of a high school building, making a commotion from the students, which is now idling near the gate only to wonder if some kind of event is happening. In the middle of those parked cars was a nice and luxurious black sedan, guarded by two men in flashy suits.

Hijikata was inside, flipping through documents when his officer knocked his window. "She's here, vice commander." Saito informed him and he simply put the papers away and stepped outside.

He was wearing a kimono as it was just a casual outing. The expensive looking robe glistened as the sunlight hit on the gold accent on the fabric, while the purple kimono inside loosely hugged his figure, showing a wide tattoo of scattering cherry blossom petals on his chest. His long black hair tied loosely, hanging on his broad shoulder. Yet, as if in contrast to his elegant appearance, his stern attitude omitted absolute authority and dominance, making everyone who met his sharp gaze cower.

Bunch of highschool students gasped as they saw the man walking leisurely pass the gate. Fascination mixed with terror coated the stares aimed at him, yet he paid it no heed as his steps brought him to the only one familiar face.

"No mistaking it." He muttered as his purple eyes fixed on a certain girl, but then he took a glance to the bicycle beside her.

She probably will run away again, such a bother... I'm too busy to deal with this.

He thought inwardly and decided to just end the cat and mouse chase short. She also probably realized it by now that it's smarter to just follow his order rather than running away, muddling things even more. That or she's actually just awfully ignorant to think that running away from him is the wise choice.

He really have to put a collar on her neck as soon as possible and make sure she won't spread some nasty rumor around.

Well, she's just a high schooler, maybe he should try to give her a gentler approach.

"Come with me if you want me to spare you and your family." He said as he leaned closer to her, making sure no one heard their conversation. "What are you so scared about? I only want to offer you an agreement."

Pool of blood seeping into a cold winter ground. Lifeless body of three men left ignored, freezing as snow began to fall from the gloomy sky. Moon shone along the sound of shuffling footsteps. Two men with bloody sword in their hand made a way for someone to enter the dreadful scene.

“Bring her in.” Cold voice broke the chilling air. The man, dressed in black suit, pointed his blade to a trembling girl slumped on the ground.

Killing those traitors proved to be easy. Even two of his subordinates were enough to end their pathetic life. Yet, pure out of his bad luck－or maybe hers, he found out that they had an eyewitness.

"A fiesty one, aren't she?" A man with chesnut colored hair whistled. He amusingly chuckled, showing no sign of pain even after the girl hit his stomach with her elbow. "Then... What do we do now, Hijikata-san?"

Hijikata frowned as he glanced at his subordinate's face. It was brimming with excitement. "Enough playing around, Souji." He probably hoped that Hijikata would order him to catch the girl. Knowing Souji, he probably only wants to play around and scare that girl. "We don't have time now. We can deal with her later."

Souji complained, but he decided to just ignore it for the time being. "Tell Yamazaki to take care of the bodies. And, about that girl..."

Hijikata turned his eyes to the way she fled. The only thing left of her was the distinct shape of her footprint above the frozen ground. He'd probably able to find her easily if he followed her footsteps, but he decided not to. To induce fear, he knows that he should let her taste a bit of freedom before he threatens to take those away. That way, he would be sure that she won't dare to say anything about what she saw.

"...Find out which school is that uniform from. We'll going to give her a visit tomorrow."

Almost like her words didn't even reach his ears, the man's sharp gaze turned to one of his subordinates. Taking that as an order, one of them approached the girl and grabbed her arms, forcing her to stand on her feet.

The man's hand tugged her chin up, and the amethyst orbs stared right at herーfinding fear on her trembling gaze. "I believe those eyes still able to see well." Does she think he would release her if she acts like nothing happened? It was hard for him to put faith in someone after his own men betrayed him. They paid it with their lifes, but this girl...

She's different.

A young lass, dressing in school uniform. Obviously, they will get a lot of trouble if they kill a civilian. Sure, police might turn a blind eye if they killed a worthless scumbag, but a high school girl...? Undoubtedly, a case like that will drag the family down.

"How unfortunate." He breathed those words, unclear if it meant for her or pitying his own self because of the newfound trouble right in front of his eyes.

"Hijikata-san. The car is here." The other man called out as a black van stopped right behind them.

"Good work." The man finally pulled himself away and began to walk towards the car. Behind his steps, both of his subordinates followed through as they dragged the girl along.

"Bring us back to the headquarter, tell the boss that we got a souvenir."

I just had a conversation about Chinese dramas and I remembered 2022 Hakuouki calendar, I love it (wished we had seen more characters that way) I mean come on we have 12 months?))
