I do really need y'all to get it through your heads that transvestigation is also inherently intersexist, because it's grounded in the idea that sex is a binary and there is no natural sex variation in human bodies.

I'm tired of seeing intersex people get told that they only get affected by these things on "accident" and that it's not "really" intersexism because "it's transphobia." I'm tired of intersex people being told that we aren't affected by things that we are often the primary targets of.

It is intersexism. It is transphobia. It is racism. These things work together to create hostile environments for anyone who doesn't fit the bigoted idea of what people are "supposed" to look like.

Quit acting like intersex people are only affected by these things on accident when we are direct targets. Quit acting like intersex people are some unknown mythical creature that medical science has never heard of, when the truth is that if you haven't heard of us, it's because we have been actively erased and abused into silence.

Bigots don't stop harassing us when they find out we're intersex. They don't accept us. They don't think we're natural or normal. They think we're freaks. They think we should be forcibly operated on to make us "normal." They kill us, they assault us, they want us to stop being born at all.

The idea that transphobic bigots are okay with intersex people because we're born this way is false, and people have got to quit pretending that transphobia is the only factor at play.

I grit my teeth and read the entire executive order regarding trans people, and I just want to take the opportunity to remind folks not to forget intersex people. One of the rescinded documents is “Supporting Intersex Students: A Resource for Students, Families, and Educators," and there is a huge emphasis on legally enshrining "only two sexes."

Yes, this affects trans people, but with the way intersex voices often get ignored in trans spaces, I just want to remind folks not to shut us out. Don't forget us. Don't keep talking over us. Don't act like we aren't on the front lines. Don't act like this is just about you. Please.
