After working in the fabulous world of travel for nearly 10 years I thought it was about time I share my thoughts on travel, places I visit and things I get up to in those places. Currently I work for, in my opinion, the most up and coming hotel collection focusing on small boutique hotels around the globe. So you guessed it my job is to look at these hotels and see if they are fit for our collection!! So follow me for info on what I get up to in the wonderful world we live in!! Katie x

Paperwork!
So finally I have my residency for Dubai! 5 weeks after I got here. In the grand scheme of things it's not long, but, in Dubai until this is done you can't do several things. You can't get a bank account, Dubai driving license, rent an apartment (as you can't bank cheques) amongst other things. You feel in limbo until this is done. In order to get this you also need to have a medical including a chest X-ray & blood test - now that was an experience in itself! Being the only blonde western female in the entire clinic was slightly daunting! But that's for another blog!! So watch this space.....a new home to come and maybe a car if I can pluck up the courage to join the crazy motorists here!

1 Month in Dubai
It's been a while since I blogged, but wow things have changed! So here I am living in Dubai. If you had told me 5 years ago I'd be here I wouldn't have believed you. It's taken me two years to build the courage to move overseas but now that I've done it I feel I have achieved something I've always wanted to do but been too scared to. You go through massive emotions and severe homesickness that comes over you like a wave but to be able to experience living in another culture is amazing. So hopefully you will enjoy my blogs and to those who are thinking of moving overseas I hope I give you an insight into what it's like!

Having been to Rio de Janeiro twice before, I was interested to go back especially around the time of the World Cup. There has been a great deal of bad press about Rio de Janeiro and it’s safety recently and I have to say not once did I feel threatened or in any danger during …

Yesterday I had a show round at the Hoxton Hotel in Shoreditch. A very cool and funky hotel with a unique concept of no advertising and who are best known for selling rooms off for £1!! All rooms are the same offering free brekkie and fab rates! Would defo recommend it!

Dubai Chic!
Whilst in Dubai I have been fortunate enough to visit some very cool hotels! Or should I say chic! From the Vida Hotel in the Financial District to Al Maha which is smack bang in the desert. Both hotels offer travellers a very different experience! Vida offering a fantastic location for shopping and site seeing and Al Maha for pure relaxation! I also visited the Park Hyatt which on entering gives you the feel you are in a Chic Italian resort rather than a city hotel. With beautiful blue and white tiles and stunning gardens this hotel gives you the perfect resort for a city getaway!
My favourite of the three has to be Al Maha! The perfect romantic destination to spend time by your private pool, camel rides and champagne as the sun goes down, what more could there be to love! :)

RAMADAN IFTAR DINNER
This is my first trip to Dubai during Ramadan. Many people do not travel here due to shops, bars, restaurants etc being shut during the day and no entertainment for a month. Dubai is quiet and the weather extremely hot, however, it is still a great place to be!
Last night I went with my colleagues to Atlantis The Palm to experience my first Iftar dinner, a traditional dinner taken by Muslims when the sun goes down during the month of Ramadan. We had a pre-booked table and I was excited to see the beautiful tent that was set up for this dinner at the hotel. However, this was not to be the case, we arrived to be greeted with a large queue and then discovered that Atlantis (one of the most famous hotels in the world) had overbooked! This created huge problems as many in the queue had been fasting all day long. When the traditional prayers started (that signify the sun going down & when Muslims can eat and drink) we were all still in the queue, resulting in us passing around water and dates to those who had been fasting all day long. We decided to leave as there were no tables even though we had pre-booked. This was a complete shambles from what is meant to be one of the most popular hotels in the world. I work for a travel company and I would not recommend this hotel to any of my clients.
The most important part of this is it was not fair on the people who were fasting to be stuck in a queue especially when the prayers started and they could stop their fasting for the day.

Tonight I will be taking part in my first Iftar dinner. It is currently the month of Ramadan in Dubai and Iftar is one of the religious observances of Ramadan. A time when the communities get together to break their fast together.
