In May of 2011, police received a tip from an anonymous caller that told them where they could find the body of a child who had been killed two years prior. They were directed to a mobile home park in Gary, Indiana, where they made a distressing discovery. Buried under a layer of concrete was the body of 13-year-old Christian Choate. He had been murdered by his father, Riley Choate and his stepmother, Kimberly Kubina in 2009. It had been Christian’s sister, Christina Choate, who had called police. She had been too afraid before and was often threatened.
As it soon transpired, Christian had led a traumatic and painful life. In 2004, Christian’s mother lost custody of him and his two siblings after her boyfriend was caught molesting them; Christian also told authorities that his mother had also touched him inappropriately. They then moved in with Christian’s father and Kubina and several cousins. In total 13 people lived in the trailer home. Christian was the brunt of the abuse and was confined to a dog cage for the last year of his life.
Christian often asked why he couldn’t go outside and play with his siblings. The only thing he had access to as a form of preoccupation was paper. On these pieces of paper Christian wrote of why nobody liked him and how he wanted to be liked by his family. He wrote of his desire to die because nobody liked him and wrote about how hungry or thirsty he was. He would be slapped, kicked, choked, thrown, and beaten. On at least one occasion, he was tied to the bed and hit. This particular beating was videotaped. In addition to the severe beatings he received, Christian was being systematically starved. Typically, he would be given ramen for breakfast and lunch and leftovers of what the family had for dinner.
Shortly before his death, he started to hallucinate. His sister recalled that she tried to feed him cereal but was unable to swallow. He couldn’t even walk to the bathroom so Kimberley put a diaper on him. The diaper was to fit a 4-year-old living in the mobile home yet it for Christian due to his severe malnutrition. The same night, Riley became infuriated that Christian couldn’t eat and punched him in the face and the back of the head. That night, Christian died alone in a dog cage.
After his murder, he was placed inside a plastic bag and then buried in concrete with a bible on his chest. Christian’s autopsy showed that he suffered blunt force trauma to his body, internal bleeding and a skull fracture. Christian’s sister later told authorities that Riley and Kimberley had told her that Christian had molested a boy and that was why he was kept in the cage. Both Riley and Kimberley had been investigated numerous times by Child Services for physical abuse, educational neglect and molestation. The last time a caseworker saw Christian was in June of 2008. Nothing was ever done after any of the visits and somehow, allegedly none of the workers believed the children were being abused.
Riley Choate pleaded guilty in exchange for an 80 year prison sentence and Kimberly Kubina pleaded guilty in exchange for a 25 to 35 year prison sentence.

What is your chance of escaping a serial killer?
Stephan Harbort conducted a study where he inteviewed over hundred serial killers and their 107 surviving victims, as well as police reports to find out what your chance of surviving a serial killer is. According to his research, you have a 15.9% chance of escaping once the killer has attacked you or kidnapped you.
However, this percentage can vary depending on several factors. You have 43% chance of escaping the killer, if you don’t get fatal injuries, 36% chance of escape if you fight the attacker*, 15% because the killer thought you were dead, 8.4% because you managed to escape, and lastly 4.7% if you outsmart the killer.
Some serial killer have admitted that they let submissive victims go.
*Note that Stephan Harbort says that self defense only works if the victim fights back aggressively, not mildly. It will most of the time make the attacker annoyed and thus make the situation worse. In 26.7% of the cases mild self defence only makes the situation worse. In only 17.6% of the cases, victims escaped.
Stay safe❤︎
