XP-PEN Artist 24 Pro - Pixel Art Cityscape Speedpaint + review
youtube
@xp-pen kindly sent me the Artist 24 Pro display tablet to make a review! This is my first display tablet of this size and it’s huge. It’s bigger than my main monitor! I was afraid that my cats (I have three) will destroy it, but it is heavy enough to survive them. Despite such weight, the adjustment stand is incredibly easy to use and I was changing the tablet’s position a few times during the day for the first couple of weeks just because I liked the process. I’m not used to the side buttons and wheels, but I tried them and they’re actually very comfortable to set up and use. It’s great when you have them by both of the sides - I guess with this amount of customizable buttons you can stop using the keyboard at all.
Another thing that I love is the USB-C cable connection. To make this tablet work you can just use the USB-C and power cable, and it’s great to not have fat HDMI around the table. However, you can use it too. The display’s surface has matte film on it and I think that it also has some oil resistance thing, because even though I wasn’t using the glove that comes with the tablet - it still remains quite clean. It also makes the drawing process very comfortable, providing a paper-like feel. I highly recommend calibrating the tablet before use with the original software. It’s very easy to do and makes the drawing process very easy and comfortable. When I received the tablet, I was afraid that it would have a big gap between stylus and display, as most tablets of this type do, but Artist 24 Pro is very precise and it’s a great pleasure to draw with it!
Overall, Artist 24 Pro is a great tablet for those who want to draw on a big surface and maybe even looking for a new monitor!

.. an eagerly truck to learn that inspiring ..
1995 Chevrolet 1500 - 08/20/23
A breakaway from the usual postings on this blog, this was my grandfather's 1995 Chevy pickup. Back when he was still alive, he worked this old girl to death. And yet, the only true signs of wear or rust is a dent in the passenger's side bed panel. For a work truck of this vintage, you'd be surprised to know that it only has 68,417 original miles on her. I one day hope that maybe I could own this truck, because damn is it pretty and damn is it sweet.

.. an auto .. a concept that inspiring
Colani-BMW 700, 1963. A concept car designed by German aerodynamicist Luigi Colani based on the rear-engined BMW 700 saloon. It was notable as the world's first vehicle with a self-supporting plastic monocoque body. With a Cd factor of 0.22 it was capable of 200km/h (120mph) despite being powered by a 700cc flat twin engine.

.. a legend of the yesteryear
The BMW 3.0 CSL Lothar/8 Mystery Car
This car has had me going down a rabbit hole trying to find out if it even exists. What I mean by that is there is no documentation that this race car ever raced or was even really built. Jean Pierre Beltoise is written in the window, and he was a famous French race driver. But this specific car Lothar/8 is not the one he won the championship in as far as I can tell.
Above are the only “real” pics of the car I could find based on the livery. The only other matches I could find after a lot of digging are of a model car:
1976 BMW CSL Championne Production. As far as I can tell it was a model car from the 70s sold in France.
When I saw this I got hopeful that it must have been based off a real car, possibly one that won a championship in 1976. So I looked into all the leagues that were around back then and there were CSL BMW race cars but none that matched the livery.
I knew that I had seen this car before though and then it hit me.
1977 “Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo”
So after scanning through all the race scenes I grabbed a couple screenshots of the mysterious Lothar/8 BMW. This one sports the number “8” where as the toy model was “20”.
Since this movie took place in Monte Carlo it is possible that the production company was just paying homage to a popular model car that was a tribute car? Although it is definitely not in many scenes and was not one of the main cars in the movie.
So now I have no idea what to think, the “real” photos of the car at the top of this post have no numbers on it making this even harder to solve.
If anyone has any insights to this phantom car I’d really like to solve this it’s driving my ocd mad. (Pun intended)
To be clear I’m trying to find out if this specific car with the livery Lothar/8 was ever a real race car or just a model tribute.
Thank you!

.. an auto .. a car .. and an inspirational vehicle
Fiat 124 Sport Spider, 1966, by Pininfarina. Designed by Tom Tjaarda when he worked for Pininfarina, the spider version of the 124 was built by Pininfarina and was in production for 19 years, until 1985, for the last 4 years badged as a Pininfarina rather than a Fiat. The model was resurrected in 2016 in a joint venture with Mazda based on the 4th generation MX-5 but sales failed to sustain the revived spider beyond 2020
