Final summary
Now at the end of the review week I would say all of my work is ready to be handed in on Monday. At the beginning of the week I went back and had a go at the character picking up a box so that I could be sure I was happy with my piece for submission. I did have some trouble with it and the speed it was at again. I think this was because the armature joints were very rigid and I struggled to move them small amounts between shots. In the end I have decided to submit my first one as the final piece as I think it shows weight and effort better.

Summary 4
After completing the walk, box lift and vanilla walk I have had time to go back and work on some changes this week. So far I have had a go at the vanilla walk cycle just so that I can see where I am going wrong with my walk cycles. I thought the spacing was the trouble with the walk and that is what made them look jerky. I now think that it is the movements of the armature. I need to make the movement more fluent so that it you were to put a tracking point on the model it would have a nice smooth line of movement and not one that moves all over the place.

Summary 3
This week I have been animating the character walking with a change of expression. So far I am on track with my work and I only have a few tester animations to do before I have finished animating. I hope to complete all of the animation before review week.
The character walk with a change of expression is the hardest animation I have had to do. This is mainly because of the sequence I have decided to do. As I decided to create a run it has proven to be difficult to get the character to run with out being flat footed. Next time I think I would use a different rig so that I am able to include a full run where the character is off of the floor for majority of it.

Summary 2
This week I have been making storyboards for my last two animations. The walk cycle with a change of expression and a character picking up a box. I am not the best at story boarding and I never really do it for projects as I do not normally have the time. I have to say it has made it easier when it comes to animating and it had defiantly made the process quicker. I do not have to get half way through animation before I can see if I have the positioning of the character is right.

Summary 1
Introduction to stop motion. This week has been the first time I have been able to work on the full dslr rig in the stop motion production room. I have been looking forward to using them for a long while. So far all we have been asked to do is create a bouncing ball loop sequence. This did not go quite as well as I would have hoped, but it was a nice starting point.
The problem with the animation was the spacing between shots. To make sure it resembled a ball bouncing I know that there needed to be less spacing as the ball reached the peak of the bounce and then gradually increase it as the ball fell. I thought this was going to work but it did not work as well as I had hoped and in the end the ball was moving to steady to look like a bounce.

This is the piece that I made for my change in expression during a walk cycle. I started the was off as quite a regal one trying to make the armature resemble an old man. The armature then stops as he positions himself to run. The running action is a very difficult one to do as the character needs to spend most of the time off of the ground. As I was only using magnets to hold the character in place the end result was not what I was hoping for.

I have been looking at improving the ball bounce animation as I knew there where parts that needed redoing. After a couple of attempts I have decided to stick with the first one that I did. This is because it was a smoother animation with better lighting and focus. Although the camera does not effect the movement of the ball I think it has helped it look better.

learning to walk
I have decided to go back and have another go at animating the armature walk again as I felt it was not good enough for submission. This time because of the trouble I was having with the ball and socket armatures I decided to go back and use one of the simple wire ones to see if it would make any difference. Over all I am more pleased with this animation and would be a lot more comfortable handing it in for submission. Obviously there are part I would change, and given the time i would do it again and again until it was smooth.

review week
Now that I am free to work on any of the work for this project I have revisited the character lifting a box. I really liked the animation I had already created for this piece but I felt it could still be improved. I have created another animation using the ball and socket armatures hoping that it would help improve the jerkiness of the previous animation.
So far I am yet to work comfortably with these armatures as I find it has too many joints, as you move one they all begin to move. This has been the case when making the walk and walk with emotion. Animating with these has improved but they could still bee smoothed out a lot more.

Armature walk
This is my first go at getting a full wire armature to walk. I only had 25 minutes to set up and animate this walk so I only animated one full step. It was difficult to keep the armature in line and level as the ball and socket joints kept becoming loose. Overall I am pleased with this as 25 minutes worth of stop motion, but I can see that the timing is a bit to fast and the movements are jumpy.

this is the animation that I them made. It still has some of the same issues as the one made by a member of my group, but I feel I did address some of the areas that needed improving. The animation is still very fast and the timing is appalling but I think I was able to portray an emotion in the character. I also think i managed to give the box some weight and the armature a lot of effort.

This animation was one made by someone in my group. It was the first one to be made so I looked at the areas for improvement so that I could avoid them when it came to making my animation. This animation is very fast and there is not much weight and effort to make the lift a believable one.

character lifting a box
This weeks lesson has been focused on getting an armature model to lift a box. It is crazy how long it takes to animate just a tiny amount of film but I am fairly happy with the animation that I got at the end. This picture is a good representation to how I felt at the end of it.

this is just a small piece we made after the ball bounce. I am pleased with the little ripple I added in on the second bounce.
