Justin: Somebody told me a joke and I don't understand why people think Hufflepuffs are idiots. We're not. And why would you tell the joke to a Hufflepuff?

I know, and I guess forced isn’t really a good word but it just feels like it, or at least like if we don’t choose something we can miss out on an opportunity. So far I’ve talked to some people about Quidditch, I’m thinking about going over and talking to The Quibbler.

I get what you mean. I’m trying to get as much information as possible about internships but it feels like I’m not finding anything good enough? Ugh I don’t know. Ooh, do you think you’re more interested in Quidditch or The Quibbler. I think you would rock it if you tried to do professional playing.

I kid, I kid. And yeah, trust me, I won’t ever stoop that low. They talked to me about a shadowing internship where I’d follow a creature keeper around and help with tagging creatures and such.

That’s annoying. Hrm, well, I say you get out of it what you put in. And you’ve put in some pretty good work, so it’s not that bad.

Tagging creatures and keeping watch of them for other people. That’s not what you want to do some day, right? I just think there’s something else out there for you.

Yeah, I suppose you’re right. Might as well take a chance and get an internship with them and see what comes from it. It’s not like I’ll loose anything by doing it. Thanks for letting me bounce some stuff off of you.

Maybe, I dunno if I’d want to teach though. I really did like talking to the creature keeper at Gringotts– she was explaining how they were starting to do more research on figuring out which creatures would be best suited for both the needs of the bank and for their ecological needs. So, no more blind dragons underground.

They don’t even tell you what department? Huh. Well, I mean, it would be a foot in the door no matter where you land, right?

You could interpret it that way sure, but the real thing you should get from this is that Livvie is something you should never call me. Come ooon, you know I’ll support you no matter what but a pet store worker? Well Gringotts is cool, probably won’t have to wear a dorky name tag to work. If anything that sounds like the best option for you, did they talk about any internships or jobs for the summer?

No they didn’t, something about always changing openings. I dunno. Like I said, none of it is all that exciting sounding but it’s a good job. Ugh, this job fair sucks.

I thought you were supposed to support me unconditionally. Yeah, I guess… I just never realized how… draining it could be in the field. Mentally, speaking.

Which department of the Ministry? I mean, there’s a lot you could do there, from wand registry to department of mysteries. Anything specific catch your eye?

I’m telling you right now, Caleb Bletchley that I will if you did something silly like that! You can do so much more than that, plus think of all the annoying people who would try and get things from you. Hmm, that’s true. Maybe there’s something that has magizoology but won’t drive you bonkers like that guy. Like teaching or something?

As if I knew. Nothing in bureaucracy sounds fun but it’s important and I want to do something important. The Department of Magical Law Enforcement could be interesting. If they offered me something I’d take it.

Am I the only one who feels sort of forced to pick a career immediately with this whole career fair thing happening?  I’m still pretty torn about what I want to do and as much as I know this is supposed to help, it honestly just makes me even more anxious. 

No I totally get you, I’m feeling that stress as well but I don’t think we’re being forced or anything. It is a pretty serious fair though. So who have you tried to talk to so far? I can’t decide if I should talk to the Ministry more or try somewhere else.

Right… well, I’ve talked with the folks over at the Magical Menagerie and I can safely say, I’m not at all interested in tending to a pet store. And the folks over at TerrorTours wanted me to talk with them, but I don’t really like the idea of calling creatures “horrifying” or “fear-inducing.”

But, uh, the creature keepers that work with Gringotts seem interesting. I got a bunch of leaflets about what they did. And I talked with a magizoologist who does fieldwork on Fwoopers– mate didn’t seem all that right minded, but I think he’ll be fine after he goes on that sabbatical of his.

Anyone else see anything they were interested in?

Thank Merlin you aren’t thinking of working at a pet store, I don’t think I could have been your friend if you had done that. As for the magizoologist, that sounds like you’re best option. Hang out with a bunch of other creature nerds.

I was talking with the people from The Ministry but they kind of feel flat on their showcasing of what their internship is. Maybe it’s better than they make it sound, and it is competitive which I like.

Mila was excited and couldn’t stop smiling at her best friends words, Excepting the gift excitedly she shook it lightly to get a feel for what it could be before opening it. “Its kind of light… Is it clothes? it has to be clothes” she exclaimed before ripping into the package.

Olivia shrugged, acting like she had no idea what it could be but was grinning like there was no tomorrow. “I dunno, it could be or not. Have to open it up to see.” It totally was. One of the gifts she thought Mila would love was a top she had seen online that was floral and made for her best friend.

Wow, thank you for finally noticing! I mean, I hope to be a fashion icon someday when I’m not stuck in these uniforms someday. But… why would she not care? They’re like 15, they’re too young to start settling for slobs. Merlin, I’m glad I wasn’t born a few months earlier.

Hmm, I sure bet you are. Whats your plan for that anyways? I dunno, maybe because looks aren’t her first worry? Or because she cares about other things? I don’t know if it’s so much they’re too young to be settling for slobs as much as they just haven’t gotten themselves together yet. Yeah, even though its only a couple months it means a lot.

Well, girls it’s different; we can style ours differently, but boy hair is so like… one dimensional. Once you have a hair that works it so throws people off if you mix it up since boys can’t do as much with their hair. Your brand hair is usually just like, braided and down I guess? But you can change it around and still like be brand-recognizable until you cut it. Wait, really? Then why is he being so difficult??? It’s like he wants her to think he’s ugly or something. 

You know what Blair, everyone who has ever said you’re dumb is so wrong. You’re a genius, like with hair and fashion and stuff you know? Who else would even think about hair brands! I don’t think it’s so much him wanting to be ugly but her not caring if hes a super model? Once again, 4th year drama is not important to me.

Skipping excitedly around the couch and flopping down next to her best friend. “You know you didn’t have to get me anything… But I appreciate that you did, its very thoughtful” Mila smiled, gently nudging the girl sitting next to her. It was partially true, she expected gifts but more so from her parents and family not so much her peers at school. Even though Olivia was more than just her “peer”, as best friends, Mila would have just enjoyed her company all the same. 

“Well sure I didn’t have to but I certinatly wanted to. You’re my best friend, how could I not get you anything?” She told Mila honestly while she handed the first present to her. Olivia was not the kind of person to do nothing for one of her only friends on their birthday, that just felt bad. She was glad to spend this time with her friend and show how much she cares. “Okay, I think you’re really going to like this one. I mean you’re going to like them all but I think this one is pretty good.”

Thank you! I’m like, super dedicated, I’m glad someone appreciates it. Leo’s hair looks fine but like, he just needs to be consistent with it and create a signature look. Changing it up too much like, washes out your brand. Is that his Shrek-loving sidekick? I’m trying so hard to get him to let me give him a makeover, but he doesn’t seem to like girls at all because being cuter for them so did not work as a motivation.

I didn’t know that that was a thing? A signature look with your hair to create a brand? That sounds all so silly. So do I have a hair brand? Yeah, he’s the Shrek lover which is just so annoying. I think he has some like major crush on Becca? I really don’t know and don’t care about 4th year drama but I think it’s more about him wanting to impress anyone but his one crush.

“Well I wasn’t planning on distracting you so much as helping you but everyone needs a break from studying every now and again” Olivia said as she slid into the chair across from him. “So, what’cha working on?”

“Actually Yes, I’m completely busy, with studying. So if you’re planning on distracting me, please do so,” he said, turning to give his books an angry glare. “Seriously, if I have to spend another minute studying I might just implode.”
