Tbf I expect Lucasfilm to retcon “no one came back for him” in the future, since Ben is dead and they can ramp up the villainy in his past like they did with the Vader comics, and they want to make the other Skywalkers as Saintly as possible. They’ll try to make it look like his family did everything they could and weren’t neglectful at all and it was Ben who threw their love away, which is why Rey Skywalker is Good because she respected their love and effort
I mean, I don’t think that’s really what the Vader comics did; the level of violence and evil in the comics is pretty in line with a dude we saw killing children in the PT, and I love the 2015 and 2017 Soule comics because I think Charles does actually have a great grasp of Anakin’s psychology and he includes humanizing elements as an undercurrent to the tension of the Vader persona.
But LF’s treatment of Ben is utterly baffling. I honestly think half their choices when it comes to him come out of ignorance, and not in a good way. I’m not sure they’re aware of how, uh, gross it is to have Ben be abused his whole life only to die, or to have Rey suddenly be The Skywalker and erase their own child out of the narrative, or any of that. That they seem to be ignorant of the greater implications of the things they put Ben through is so much worse.

I figured people would eventually realize what a great movie we got in TLJ. I'm gutted that it took TROS being a grotesque sh*tshow to bring some folks around.
TLJ is the only Reylo movie I recognize

Some nice words about representation, and some words about Star Wars. JJ speaks:
“The truth is that these are things that are meant to entertain people, to make them feel something and hopefully make them feel good,” said Abrams, calling his involvement with the Lucasfilm trilogy a “blessing.” “Obviously, it doesn’t always work. It’s hard when it doesn’t, and when it doesn’t, you have to understand it, you have to acknowledge it, you have to examine it.”
- JJ Abrams
What did they learn between TFA and TROS that we saw onscreen? And honestly I don't give sh*t about any journey of self-examination TROS' reception is inspiring in JJ - He's demonstrated his capacity for learning, and I'm not impressed.

I hope TROS haunts them forever. They deserve it.
If DLF chooses to move on from TROS, this film will still literally haunt them. Because even if they do decide to try to forget it, people who watched it will NEVER forget how it burned them. Fans and even the media felt betrayed. They literally have no support anymore. People will ALWAYS remember TROS as the film that ruined the Skywalker saga and even SW as a whole for everyone. The positive thing is that Ben Solo is gonna be fondly remembered and celebrated as the best character.
Yep!
Ben Solo can stay with us where he’ll always be cherished by those who loved him most.

You know, coming up with a good ending to this movie should not have been this hard.
Did somebody inform JJ & co that Ben... was already... a Skywalker... orrrrrrrrrrrrrr?? *eye twitch*

Ugh. I hope there are some folk at DLF feeling as demoralized as us these days. Star Wars was a sacred trust, and they utterly blew it.
And yes, I guess I've crossed over and also become one of those fans who hates Star Wars. Or maybe I should say, I hate the storytellers who betrayed Star Wars.
You don’t say, Matt...

And this is lovely. I want to know more about this American Monomyth. I don't think I like it, and it feels like it might explain a bunch of what I don't get about my own culture.

Poe enthusiastically befriends and embraces Finn within 5 minutes of him leaving The First Order, when for all he knows Finn has been slaughtering people as a stormtrooper for the past 5 years, and yet people think it's unrealistic for Star Wars characters to accept that Ben Solo came back to the light and not call for his execution?
It's a kids space franchise and was written to be a modern myth about good and evil, you're pushing Space Geneva Conventions onto a story where they don't belong.
There's no narrative weight put on the nameless people Ben killed, his only sin the audience is really supposed to care about is killing Han and that was resolved over three movies.
Ben didn't need to die for the story to work, he died because the writers couldn't be bothered to write something original or give their characters proper arcs and endings.

The fact that Kylo Ren was handed off to his uncle not just to be trained, but to be fixed–because there was “too much Vader in him”–while his father, who felt uncomfortable around his own flesh-and-blood son, who mentored young pilots and became a father figure to them… while his mother appeared to do the same with Resistance fighters (or at least with Poe)… while Kylo was isolated from a family that sent him away, with no one to tell him he was fine the way he was–that he was stronger by virtue of the Vader in him, not flawed, not damaged, not in need of fixing–was the voice in his head that had targeted him since he was literally in Leia’s womb and had been grooming him all his life…
That’s got me fucked up, man.

So I hear JJ Abrams opened his mouth.
How's TROS looking on RT right now, JJ? Still rated lower than Phantom Menace? Trying to limp past Rogue One's box office? Haha GTFO

I put no stock in rumors, but if George Lucas came back to Star Wars to SAVE BEN SOLO, I would be down for that.
RUMOR: George Lucas would return to Star Wars if given total control
Guys, this is just a rumor, but Google recommended it to me and I haven’t seen it around here.
I’ll do a translation of some highlights.
Although it’s not difficult to understand why Lucas hasn’t been satisfied with the recent movies, it seems both parties are willing to reach an agreement.
A few weeks ago, We Got This Covered reported that LucasFilm wanted George to come back to help them with the franchise in a more official position.
According to some sources close to that portal - these sources are the same who leaked many correct details about The Rise of Skywalker months before it premiered - Lucas said he would only come back if they give absolute control over the franchise to him. According to the information they received, it is believed the filmmaker thinks the studio has made a disaster, and he needs to have total control to fix it.

The whole movie is peak American bullshit. The christian symbolism with death as the ultimate sacrifice & the notion that you have to die for your bad actions and shouldn't be allowed to live redeemed. We don't kill people in my country, not even murderers because that's not how a civilised society works. No wonder the dudebro nation cheered for TROS. American military and nationalism really did their fair share in brainwashing the general public. So glad to see you are not one of them.
I’ve lived in multiple countries. Spent my formative years in the midst of an actual civil war. And did my graduate research in New Orleans…where trauma has led to inordinate amounts of incarceration, particularly in young African American men. There is more incarceration in that area than anywhere else in the world. And the biggest piece of wisdom I’ve gained from all of this exposure is that most people who do bad things aren’t bad PEOPLE. They just don’t know how to cope with their pain and empower themselves in healthy ways.
My social work mentor would call the actually “bad” people “dark entities.” They are few and far between. Those are the people that need to be locked away and not rehabilitated because there is no rehabilitating that black hole.
