About the one direction/F1 pipeline,

There are so many similarities between F1 fandoms and K-pop fandoms. Like I’ve had weirdly similar conversation with both Verstappen and BTS fans.

I could make a PowerPoint presentation on how fandoms in general are just gross toxic and too much. Like it’s nice to have people who also enjoy things that you like, but when you interact with so many people in those groups, it always goes south.

There’s also that pressure to prove yourself as a real fan, and a lot of new fan stigma that I see a lot in K-pop fandoms, and am now kind of avoiding in F1 fandoms.

I could go into HEAVY detail.

i could also go into heavy detail. i really could bc i was in so deep during 1d’s prime time. i was certain kind of crazy i would prefer not to think of. i can’t speak on k-pop fandoms bc i’ve never been apart of it but i will say that they scare me. i see how hard they go…. how far they’re willing to go. it’s kind of crazy.

but i agree. the deeper you get into this fandom, the worse it gets. there’s a way to enjoy things without losing your marbles over it… without feeling the need to know every single little detail of a person’s life or actively go looking for those details. i know it’s shitty to try and tell people how to enjoy what they consume but……… there is a line. it is a line so easily and so often crossed, and it’s such a turn off as someone who’s witnessing it all. idk to me it’s people like that who kind of ruin the experience for me— and it’s why i’m so picky with who i follow and what kind of content i consume.

The one direction to f1 pipeline is very real good, bad, or ugly

i just think that it leans more towards the ugly more than anything. if my memory serves me correctly, stan-culture is by far one of the most (if not the most) toxic thing on the internet. and to see a bit of that toxicity being translated into a sports fandom is so... so so interesting to say the least.

but maybe thats just me, bc im but an old woman and so far removed from that mindset. and also im just getting war flashbacks to the time stans hacked into airport security to watch harry sit at his gate. fucking WILD TIMES

As someone who is very invested in other sports I havent ever seen the obsession with WAGs like this at all (the only thing I have close is like personally knowing some WAGs for my baseball team but thats vastly different) and honestly its…um…interesting. Altho I dont know if its really not that different than just general fandom so its the boybandfication of f1 🤷🏼‍♀️

but you’re right. i guess i never expected that from a sports fandom, bc again it is pretty weird. but this is very reminiscent of the one direction days and i don’t mean that in a good way haha
