For us to showcase this character who is a core member of the ensemble, who’s not going anywhere, who is happy, who has friends, a chosen family that she loves, and who is successful in her life, is something I never saw growing up on television. I never thought a happy ending could be for me. And now I am playing someone who is out, who is bi, and who is going to succeed. There’s a beautiful line that Captain Holt, played by Andre Braugher, says in the show. He says, “Every time someone says who they are, it makes the world a better, more interesting place.”

Via The Bisexual Index on Twitter
[Picture is a series of tweets by The Bisexual Index which read:]
We don’t say “bisexuality is attraction to two or more genders”. We say “bisexuality is attraction to more than one gender”.
If you don’t see a difference then why not use our version?
There is a difference. 1) Saying “It’s not 2, it’s 2 (or more)” doesn’t really get away from the outdated “there’s two” model.
1a) And it footnotes other genders. No need to! 2) And as with our list of points, more than one can include ‘not entirely two’.
But again - if you see genders or your attractions purely as integers then don’t worry: More than one totally includes two.
Part of the @bisexualindex mission statement is to promote “more than one” over “two” or “two+”.
We think it’s more inclusive and reflective of the bisexual community. Other bi orgs disagree and that’s cool. It’s not mandatory.
But when people who don’t use the bisexual label tell you we’re wrong, feel free to tell them we don’t care. Our label, our definition.
This is a very interesting thread and they make some good points as to why “more than one” would be preferable to “two or more”.
I specifically dislike the “same and other genders” definition due to the way it submits to the “bi = 2″ definition and also specifies a particular gender you have to be attracted to and, in The Bisexual Index’s words, “it footnotes the other genders”. (and since the SGA discourse I really don’t trust people who use it for the whole community).
But I also feel that “more than one” and “two or more” are equally inclusive and reflective of everyone in the bi community so they can be used more interchangeably than some other definitions, though I’ll definitely consider promoting the “more than one” definition a bit more going forward.

Unfriendly, in your face reminder that there are straight trans people and they do not have to tell you they’re trans in order to be included in the community. See a “het couple” at pride?? Shut the fuck up about it. They could be bi, pan, trans, etc etc.
Asking someone to disclose if they’re trans is rude as fuck. Don’t do it. You are NOT entitled to know someone’s sexual orientation or assigned at birth gender.

achilles is so often called gay by the community and straight by society even though he fell in love with men and women. freddie mercury is known as the most famous gay man even though he self identified as bisexual. channing tatum is constantly called straight even though he’s dated men and women. evan rachel wood and angelina jolie and drew barrymore–all self identified bi women constantly called straight.
sappho wrote love poems for both men and women and yalls response to the idea that she might have been bi is “there was no concept of bi/gay back then!! let’s focus on the fact that she was sapphic!!” to the point where her name has become synonymous with gay and she’s called a lesbian icon and y'all only seem to have issues with “concepts” and labels when the concept/label is BI. why am i not surprised?

y’all: bisexuals are fake bc they usually end up in m/f relationships
me, an intellectual: it’s easier and statistically more likely to find a straight person who is attracted to you and compatible with you than to find a lgb+ person who is, especially in small towns. not to mention the fact that a big part of lg community won’t date us, because they are biphobic. also a huge number of bis are nb, so m/f rhetoric doesn’t even fit us. also. there is nothing wrong with bis being in a m/f relationship if it’s healthy. also. stop being biphobic it’s 2017 when will this stop
