all my random (and spoilerish) thoughts about the acolyte episode 6 (don’t expect nothing coherent, just fangirl screams).
I said it on twitter and will repeat it here: wasn’t expecting all the phantom of the opera that the episode has, but, omg, I enjoyed them SO much.
I’ve loved everything about this episode and how Lesley has understood the dynamic of the monster boyfriend/husband trope perfectly. Qimir has taken osha to his ‘nest’ a place where he’s vulnerable to create a bond with her. now he needs to be understood and that he sees him as ‘a person’ and the best way for this is to show himself fully.
the reason why he appears naked is, apart among many other reasons I’ll say later, is because he has to take off his ‘monster skin’ and be seen as human (after she’s witnessed how he killed her Jedi’s friends). and of course he’s doing this cause qimir is manipulative and is trying to seduce osha (he clearly says that desire is a powerful emotion); everything he does in this episode is focused on making osha ‘wake up’ of the dream.
he sees her vulnerabilities and doubts clearly (maybe cause he had the same doubts years ago) and twist them to fix his logic. he’s the ‘breaker of the pre-established logic (aka Jedi’s)’ , the voice who whisper to her ear and tries to show you the world as she’s never seen it before. and, of course, a representation of her animus.
and, omg, THE ENDING and how osha puts on qimir’s mask. she puts herself on his place and sees the world as he does (and not only that, the way she caress his mask with such tenderness). thank you for this, Lesley.
btw, it’s quite interesting too how sol is restraining mae to make her listen. and I’m not saying that’s wrong, just that the two of them (sol and qimir) want the same from osha/mae: to be understand and that they choose their side, but their methods are completely opposite.

i love this parallel and how the darkness starts behind mae, but he materializes behind osha.
know I’m asking too much and won’t get all I want. but narratively, their journeys are opposites: now mae should start walking outside the shadows and towards the light, while osha must do the opposite and learn to embrace her darkness.
and this is why qimir’s attitude is different with each sister. mae is the betrayer, the one who’s trying to get away of the dark (he already ‘seduced’ mae when she was younger and now is just someone dispensable and who could become his nemesis).
while osha is the one who can be manipulated. she’s vulnerable to the (or his) darkness as her sister once was, and is only for that he’ll use his ‘kindness’.

yes, it’s been beautiful to watch the ‘changes’ on yeowoon after he broke off his own walls and let myungha see how he truly is, but, at the same time, is so sad to think about how a bad time he had. he’s not just afraid to get hurt, but to be abandoned so he’s preferred to distance himself from everyone…
myungha has already told him that he needs to go out with other people (and make new friends), so I’m eager to watch myungha helping yeowoon to achieve it and expand his world.
